I must stand up for Erik and his great sense of humor...as opposed to being sexist.

Do you think sexist can not have a sense of humor? Usually sexism appears in the form of joke, then sexist says - it's all a joke, don't you have a sense of humor? you can't take a joke, too bad...
and btw it is not humor it's an example of laddish banter
I understand that you're older than me and has worked in the male-dominated business so the ability to accept a sexist joke and laugh with the lads is one of the conditions of survival - but times have changed.

I'm astonished that you can even spell humour, as you have NONE of it, Mary

Or wait.....no, you didn't spell it correctly, no need to be astonished anymore, thank you.

I think nearly all 2003 and 2006 versions of Gimme Shelter were lame.

1995 and 1998 were very very good and also Gimme Shelter during the first London 2012 show was quite good.

But nothing can compete with this one..

This is my favorite version also, closely followed by Altamont.
Wish there was film of them performing it at Altamont!!!!

You confuse rudeness and insults with humor - and not for the first time. Not by chance someone called you the most obnoxious poster of this forum. It was a joke of course but you were offended and loudly announced your departure from the board. Now this is hilarious.

FYI - Humour or humor (see spelling differences) is the tendency of particular cognitive experiences to provoke laughter and provide amusement.
Latin-derived spellings
-our, -or
Most words ending in an unstressed -our in British English (e.g. colour, flavour, harbour, honour, humour, labour, neighbour, rumour) end in -or in American English (color, flavor, harbor, honor, humor, labor, neighbor, rumor).

Damn I love this version of Gimme Shelter! And the 95 Amsterdam version also. However, nothing beats the studio version IMHO. Probably the best song the Stones ever did with Midnight Rambler a close second!

The way they played this on Voodoo Lounge and Bridges / No Security tours was brillient. At some point (Licks) they decided to give it similar treatment as they did with Sympathy which turned it into a parody of itself. When I saw them play it in 2012 I thought that it was back to being good again. The Florence version was extremely energetic and the best I've seen or heard them play it since 1999.

I personally am not overly keen on the early 70s versions. To me it's a different song altogether. I normally would prefer that era stuff too but for this song I think Ron's style suits better.

Nothing beats the album version, although there are some great ones out there - from ALL eras. The SW-tour version was very good as well, imo.

It's different and pretty cool, not sure I love it, but I like it. Personally nothing tops the version from Brussels first show, with the L&G and L.A. Friday versions being runners-up. I still listen to other versions, but between those three and the studio version, I find very little reason to. As a guitar player, and "guitar guy" of sorts (in that I always pay most attention to the guitar), I would prefer one of the older more raw guitar versions than this polished and highly produced version. Now if I were going to a show tomorrow, I would love them to play this version, as I like this more than what they normally play in recent years, which is also not very raw. But if I had to choose Gimme Shelter's from their entire career, this wouldn't be high up on the list. It's high up on the list for the post-82 era though.

Any one wiser than me to get a link?
Thanks in advance.hot smiley

"Gimme Shelter" in 1969 and 1970 was AMAZING.

Please, "Great sense of humor"?? Just lame stuff not even close to being funny, just stupid. but I don't know maybe you guys are 15 so it is funny.

Anyway, you are right about these newer Gimmee Shelters. Has nobody heard the 72 versions (particularly Philly) where Taylor and Keith absolutely soar?

Speaking of myself; I'm not 15 at all! I'm way above 18, soon to be 19! I enjoy rocking out to You Got Me Rocking and thinking Richards skull-ring is cool....not something teenagers to; to put it that way. I even have 2 tongue-T-shirths.
