Everybody has its own favor of "Gimme shelter"
Empire Pool 1973

I agree it is so nasty sounding gives me the goose bumps. I think I like the version that started the thread because it is almost 9 minutes.

Several gentlemen of the board have called my attention to MillitantMary's posts...especially the one explaining that "times have changed..." Well, Duh!

Philly 1972, it will never get any better than this!

It is a small thing, but I notice it all the time. Listen to what I think are Jagger responses to Taylor's playing at 1:31, 2:09, 4:27, 6:54 and 7:31. I admire Jagger's keen awareness on stage. He knew when the good stuff was coming. As he said in Crossfire Hurricane.."That was a really good band." I think the 21st performance is my favorite. I remember what I felt when I saw the band a few weeks earlier. It was almost like much of the show was difficult to comprehend. I had a feeling of the band playing over the crowd. It was astonishing, like being run over by a truck.

Just to weigh in...I totally agree. The Amsterdam '95 version is great, but it's a diamond in the rough as far as post 1975 performances of this song. The 1972-73 Taylor versions were the best, with some real competition from 1975 versions.

Birmingham, September 19 1973. first show. Keith's chainsaw is "on" and Mick Taylor's with his slicing solos + thick wah-wah. Only wish there was a soundboard of this.

stonesrule, I in no way wanted to offend you or sound patronizing "explaining" anything to you. Remember that English is not my native language and nuances of speech are beyond me. In any case, if I sounded so I apologize.
I would like to say that I refuse to see any sexist jokes as humor and consider them an insult just as anti Semitic jokes I consider an anti-Semitism.
If you thin this is a millitant approach - then so be it

You think I see any point about being serious with speaking to proudmary? I just wanted to give her something more to pick on. Obviously she missed that fag/gay thing....

Ohoho, my dear Eric
You are charming in in your arrogance. It's hilarious how you fit into the stereotype
You try to joke and people do not find your jokes funny, your reaction - they have no sense of humor
You're trying to manipulate people and provoke them to the expected response, they ignore your so-obvious attempts and your reaction - they are so stupid they did not notice hints

Wow, what an unnecessary sexist statement. if it would be racist or homophobic remark it would draw attention. but with sexism apparently no one has any problem

Why would I pick on people with other skin-colour or people with other preference when it comes to sex?

Being a silly woman with no sense of humor, of course I just had to respond - But how dare you pick on people with a different set of genitals, blah blah blah - something like that, right?
You are so cleverly prepared everything for me -I really appreciate it
Please keep on not treat me seriously and for this reason to respond to every one of my post, talk about me with other posters in different threads and prepare traps for me. It's too big a thrill to give it up.

I like them all, it's my favorite song. I do like it performed at a slower tempo, closer to the album version, rather than the coked-up high-speed early 70s renditions.
Listening to some of these videos- thanks for posting - made me think about the old Keith quote about how it's the notes you don't play that are important, or something like that. Mick Taylor is such a great guitarist, but he definitely could have learned from Keith to use silence - or "what you leave out" - to greater effect.

Melodic wonderment to the heavens glistening with all of MT's vibarto those melodic lines just streching and screaming. No one can play those lines like MT did in 72/73 - not clapton or Beck and all the rest of the guitar gods.

<Mick Taylor is such a great guitarist, but he definitely could have learned from Keith to use silence - or "what you leave out" - to greater effect.>

Taylor has a fine sense of "space" in his playing when he thinks it's appropriate, e.g., his YCAGWYW solos.

speaking of YCAGWYW solos -Besides his soloing he plays one of the greatest octave RIFFS as jagger sings the chorus and that adds alot to the song as Keith plays with two fingers and 5 strings .

It would probably be helpful to MickT if he ever had any serious rehearsal time with the band.

I'm really glad Taylor was not around when the studio versio was recorded and glad also that the stones didn't go and do an Atomic Rooster and dub on a new members guitar parts to an already completed recording. grinning smiley

Some of us thought you had been changed into some sort of Taylor-fan after his appearance on MR since November last year, but that's too much asked I guess.cool smiley

This tour is pure nostalgia etc and it is clear what the band means to him, plus he's way less modal/melodic sounding etc these days. I hate that sound in the context of The Rolling Stones, he started to bring it in most obviously from 1970/71 onwards, way too much by 1973, makes me puke.
