The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell is kick ass. If I'm Dreaming My Life and Something In The Air are very good too, as is What's Really Happening.

You are right.

Something in the air is especially fantastic.

Hours was the album where Reeves and him had their major disagreement. Reeves made the fatal flaw that many a side man has made with Bowie. It is Bowie's show, and he has a definite vision of what it will sound, feel, and look like. And he was the main writer, singer, and charisma of any band he is in. Reeves in an interesting interview, later lamented that he forgot that, and that was why he had to move on. You can almost sense the regret in the interview. I like Reeves, but his style of guitar got to be a big of a one trick pony, with the over reliance of sound tricks that tended to wail away without any anchor to the original idea, or melody. Which can be quite exciting when done well, but did seem to overstay its welcome. And Reeves was undoubtably bored with Bowie's return to being a more melodic writer with more straight forward guitar.

I think Santa Monica 72 is far superior to the Ziggy Motion Picture disc. As was the show. They did a fantastic job remastering it, and the deluxe set is wonderful. The sound and rawness of the show is cacophony of grit, glitter, and raw rock n' roll.

Unfortunately the sound on 2008 reissue was compressed at the final stage.
There was a promo CDR available with an uncompressed mix which is said to sound much better

Here's a report on the promo CDR : [www.illustrated-db-discography.nl]

Yup I knew about that CDR, seems strange each track is seperated by a few seconds of silence. I don't really notice the compression on the official release. I really think it sounds fantastic and the performance is also better than the Ziggy Motion Picture performance.

Not many tracks from Hours? There's a nice remix of Thursday's Child called "Rock Mix" that could fit somewhere (maybe after PTGTH?).

Anyone got the dualdisc Reality? I've ordered it because it wasn't much dearer then the standard version.

JohnnyBGoode,

You didn't include the album version of "Hallo Spaceboy".

Possibly the noisiest record he ever made. Not recommended if you have a hangover.

I love it.

It's so confusing these days.

If it's the version with a live show included on DVD it's a really nice one to own. Some songs from Reality sound better in their live version than on the actual studio recordings.

Sadly not. CD on one side, DVD with surround sound version + video on the other.

Good man! Hallo Spaceboy is a classic Bowie song. Serial Killer Ziggy for the 90's. Glad you put LAW on it as well. Man that song just rocks, and has a killer Keyboard riff.

I hate rumours but here goes.

Someone I know was at NAMM and Earl was talking about Amp mods to a guitar tech and Earl was playing a lot of Bowie guitar licks and said they will be playing a lot of the old Bowie favorites.

So maybe a tour, but it is only a rumour.

Two of the songs sounded a little Stones-y in the same way the title track from Diamond Dogs had a very Stones-y sound, especially when we played it live. It's not a great secret that I'm a big lover of Keith Richards, so I do have a lot of that in my playing.

Good news!
