He was mixed higher than Keith & Ronnie (as was Taylor i think).
You're right, it didn't really 'fit', but i enjoyed because of its ridiculousness compared to the suitableness of the Stones.

Both Ronnie and Keith are more interesting guitar players at this point in their careers than the over-rated Clapton. I don't understand why the Stones feel it makes the evening any more special to have these guests. The Stones makes it special. Why else pay top $$$$$.

Taylor wasn't really that loud, at least not as loud as one might think after watching the YT-clips.
Beck was horrendously loud, imo.
