To me sounds like a 2012 tweak of an unheard/unfinished Undercover outtake....same vibe........and I like it..................

"Meh. Don't like this version of Jagger's voice. He's trying too hard to "rock", which appears to be the overall gimmick. Hey look! 70 year old guys with snarling vocals, guitars and a beat."

There's no pleasing some people. Jagger sounds great, not straining to sound like a 20 year old and not using that awful nasal tone that most of us can't stand. Best Mick vocal I've heard in a while. After the Superheavey vocals I hadn't expected this level of quality from him. As for the song, it's no Stones classic but it moves nicely and I'd dance to it.

nasality aside, he's affecting those awful mannered, over-enunciated habits again. grrrr indeed. i want my old micky.......

I hear certain similarities to this:

you think ronnie feels like suing, then?

He could at least name his next album "I Feel Like Suing".

Agreed. Vocally, he's stronger here than on "Plundered My Soul". He's really straining on that one.

OMG- "Plundered" is one of Jagger's very best.

Yes. He's more straining on this one. Not to say its not good. I like it, but it sounds like VL-era Keith.
Again not bad, but not PMS either.
It also occurred to me that if this was someone else - a young band, I would be like
'This sounds cool, really Stonesy....'
We're a tough crowd.

Doom & Gloom - First play on Radio2

Just heard it (twice!) on Radio2.... fantastic, classic groove, real rock'n'roll and I instantly liked it, which is a great sign.

The presenter joked that they had an exclusive for 10 minutes ahead of the rest of the world so they played it twice in a row.

GRRReat :-)

Just heard it - like tomcat said - twice, great, slightly Neoconish on first listens, but may change my mind later, Keith's new riff is definitely there!

It's good to hear The Stones rolling again!

Cheers

Quite enjoyed driving into work and listening to a new Stones song. Actually better than I thought it was going to be...and thank God no sign of Chuck Leavell. I would have liked a little more of the lead guitar to be mixed up higher. All in all a huge improvement on the dross from ABB. Let's see what comes next!

I agree but it seems a Mick's solo song/'Goddess in the doorway' outtake

I was thinking Goddess in the Doorway outtake, as well....

It really is a Rolling Stones vintage 2012 song.

I can't keep my feet still, while listening to it through the PC speakers.

Great to hear it. It's the Stones in 2012 so don't expect a vintage 70s sound but I like it. First listen and it sounds like a cross between You Got Me Rocking and Rough Justice. Great riff. Ronnie playing an elastic sounding solo a la Undercover.

I think it's pretty damn good for a bunch of guys pushing 70. N0, even if they were younger, it's still a pretty damn good song. Honestly better than I expected to hear. If they can sound like that at their age, I wish they'd attempt a full album....

Yeah.. I've been singing Rough Justice since I heard Doom and Gloom.

Yeah, that countdown was exciting, makes you feel like a little kid before Christmas eh...

As for the song, well, not too bad, it reminds me a lot of "Driving too Fast" which is not a good thing, the drumming/machine saves it though by giving it a swampy feel.

Pretty sure it's Mick's guitar in the right channel in the intro. The main swampy guitar ? Dunno, doesn't sound much like Keith ?

Nothing fantastic or classic about it really. Less than average if you ask me. Just a shouting MJ on a ZZ Top beat. Not tipical Stones at all.

It sound way more like Rough Justice sound-wise, imo - only better thumbs up

Very disappointing. Keith's part (or what there is of it) sounds like it was phoned in. Lucky he has two other guitarists in the band to cover him.

Lyrics are absolutely horrible.

Love the production but it doesn't make up for a weak song. As suspected this is just more Stones by numbers either made up in the studio in desperation to find something that sounds like the Stones to put on the latest greatest hits CD - or as someone else said, salvaged from an outtake of Goddess in the blah blah.

Yes they are pushing 70 (or already are 70) - but so what. Bad is bad. thumbs down
