Anyone remember the version where Keith kisses Ronnie

was there any tongue in it?

Sorry to disappoint you StonesTod, but it was only on the cheek...on Ron's face.

well, sure...that's how it usually starts...

not my favorite keith track but an ok little tune with cool riff and guitar tone; lyrics a bit on the dumb side tho

Lyrics are not on the dumb side; it celebrates the healing quality of a new woman in his life, and how the dealers are being slowly waved bye-bye to. I prefer it to All About You, and it's better than Wanna Hold You.

Wanna Hold You's good though.

It's become something of a classic these days but I remember at the time of release being somewhat disappointed after the greatness of Before They Make me Run. It's grown on me over the years and despite it usually being a bit of a car crash when played live, it is loaded with energy and full of Keithisms.

'She's my little rock & roll/Her tits and ass with soul, baby/She's my little rock & roll'

- ok, those aren't dumb lyrics lol

and 'the bitch keeps bitching, the snitcher keeps snitching' sounds like what you'd expect from some bad primal scream lyrics when they go off on a stones tangent

the guitars sound good and the production too, though; sounds like some sort of a delay effect on there

i don't think the songs about anything more cerebral than your basic one night stand

"Well, that song's just about every good time I've had with somebody I'd met for a night or two and never saw again." (KR 1981)

It may not be the smartest lyric but the alliteration and delivery is pretty fun.

Good intro. Embarrassingly awful lyrics.

couldn't you kinda tell from the title it wasn't going to another "visions of johanna"?

One of Keith's very best riffs and tunes in my opinion.
Lyrics always sounded to me like scratch lyrics that needed polished/improved.

T&A is nothing less than superb.

It also features one of the best solos by Ronnie.

My favorite track on the Tattoo You album. Love it, always have - though I think my favorite version may always be the live Hampton '81 take.

That's exactly how I feel about it! It's amazing how bad it can be onstage and still be great.

I discovered Keith and the Stones through Tattoo You so Little T&A is one of Keith best songs for me, and don't forget Demon from Main Offender.

Tod, I'm always hopeful in the moment before I drop the needle down for the first time.

If you hate the lyrics, here it is without any:

I'm not sure about the exact meaning of every detail of each line, but the sheer joy of being able to tell the dealers to go to hell because there's a different kind of happiness in his life is obviously what it's about. Maybe it's the dealer bitching that he's got that new pool and patio to pay for, and if Keith's not buying, what's he going to do - but I think really it's Keith's way of saying that he's headed in the right direction at last, though there's a long way still to go. But this being the Stones, there are probably all the suggested sexual double meanings there as well, if you need them.

Primal Scream, of course, built a whole song out of a couple of lines of Little T&A - but it's not the Stones' fault if they get copied ten years later!

ok so in trying to figure the guitar bits out, i've got;

intro:

(ascending sequence): F, through open A string to C, D a few times; the last time vamping on the D a couple times

chorus:

(descending sequence): B flat, through open A string to F; A string hammer on to a C note to open D string, D-minor, A

verse:

that 'keith' type thing (riff style hammering on with middle finger (9th fret) and rig finger (10th fret) in C and F, index finger based at C position (8th fret)

that's all I got, any other ideas?

Does Keith use open-G or standard tuning on this?

How did you manage the very first F-note in the riff, then? smiling smiley

That effect on the snare drum is annoying.

The snare drum here and on "Hang Fire" are fabulous.

One of the last truly great rock tunes the Stones ever recorded, imho. The hook is a mile wide with a razor point. Who cares if the lyrics are not the best. it's only rock and roll.

Definitely played in standard tuning.

I wonder why they don't do this song live this tour? it would be a great one to give Mick a rest. Maybe Keith's fingers aren't up to it. peace

Keith's 3rd best rocker! Behind Happy and Before They Make Me Run, of course.
