Led Zeppelin Definitive box set SHM edition question
Posted by: Sighunt ()
Date: May 23, 2014 02:58

Hi. I have a question for the Led Zeppelin audiophiles experts on this site. Has anyone purchased the Led Zeppelin Definitive box collection that features the SHM technology. I know there is debate about whether these Japanese pressings are sonically superior to regular CDs. I'm curious to know if people who have purchased this (expensive) box set have noticed a difference? Any feedback you can give me on this topic.

I can't notice any difference at all on the SHM-CD's...I have hoped for a long time that they would put out SHM-SACD's like the Stones did for 21 of their albums, but so far nothing!smiling smiley

I thought they sounded great. And now I get the pleasure of buying the catalog AGAIN to compare to these. Yeah, I'm a sucker :-)

I did not attend the press conference but I came later at the Olympia backstage to salute him and he was not irritatedsmiling smiley I promoted the "Led Zeppelin" DVD and "How The West Was Won" triple CD back in 2003.

Did anyone see Jimmy Page on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon two nights ago? I enjoyed the segment, but was appalled Page got only one segment, that was only about five minutes. Fallon is a classic-rock queen, so I thought would have Page on for 20 minutes and maybe playing a song, too. Too bad.

I saw the Fallon/Page bit, and it was very short.
But Page did play air guitar when he walked onstage to his seat! drinking smiley

What, exactly, does "pre-echo" mean? Echo before... an echo? That's stupid.

Overblown is the word. Imagine LZ recording a gentle delicate song like "Let It Loose" urgh!
LZ's forte was cock rock.

Have you heard gentle delicate songs like Thank You, or the afore-mentioned Tangerine? Or Going to California, or . . .

Yeah to me they sound phoney and/or parodic... LZ were only good at cock-rock : testosterone-ladden punches in the face like Achilles.
The Stones are good at any kind of songs, big difference.

Seriously can you listen to "Fool In The Rain" and not shake your head in disbelief? eye popping smiley

...Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You.

Babe is another song LZ "borrowed", to be polite. As well as D&Confused, STH, etc etc

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but in this case you're totally wrong in my opinion. winking smiley

My opinion is the same as your opinion.

Plus--"testosterone-laden punch in the face?

It was an April morning when they told us we should go
As I turn to you, you smiled at me
How could we say no?

With all the fun to have, to live the dreams we always had
Oh, the songs to sing, when we at last return again . .

Yup, that's cock rock. eye rolling smiley Could at least have picked a better example!

Sounds great though, so great that Glyn nicked the idea for You Got The Silver.

DCBA- this is another one of those apples and oranges argument. Zep was more than just "cock rock" as you call it. Their body of work transcended a lot of different musical styles. I happen to like Going to California and some of their other ballad/acoustic driven tunes.

Bought Led Zeppelin lll on deluxe double vinyl yesterday.
The whole product shows that there has been a lot of caretaking for this release.
The album is in a tri-fold cover, with the spinning wheel intact.
The bonus disc is interesting. Some of it are hot, some of it are not. No matter what, I enjoy the insight one gets through the albums process. Great stuff, not to mention that the original album sounds relly great, like it always have.

I'll be getting the CD releases of these. I guess I'll get them in order, although I'm most geeked about Led Zeppelin 2.
