Carla Rhodes confirms the Stones!
(admittedly my interpretation)

Is it possible they aren't really playing (and someone else is)?

Nice photo. I forgot Pat Smear was back in the band. Way to go, Mick!

This performing outside discussion brings to mind the comeback of Aldus Snow on the Today Show. Perfect.

I went to high school with George/Pat Smear.

For what its worth, Mick is bringing his own lighting guy.

the return of a "certain" band to the stage this Saturday Night, perhaps even accompanied by a pretty big annoucement.

Foo Fighters are playing 7:30-9:30 in Atlantic City. They therefore won't be present for the SNL rehearsal (8-9:30), unless that rehearsal is being held earlier in the day (possibly why those studio tours end earlier than usual at 3:30?). And it seems pretty improbable that they'll play live on the show, which runs from 11:30-1AM, as it's at least 2 hours from Atlantic City to New York.
So I'd guess that their segment will be taped, which is not how SNL usually does things. Is it possible they aren't really playing (and someone else is)? That seems highly unlikely given TeddyB's posts on this board. I very seriously doubt the Stones will play, especially with Ronnie in Cannes the night before (while Beck could fill in, his band will be present as well). But it is all a bit curious.

The Rolling Stones, like any band, need promotion. Hell, Keith and Mick even wear t-shirts on stage with their logo on them. Don't you think that if they were to perform on SNL that they would advertise it? There would be so many Stones fans that would be pissed off on sunday morning if they performed and they missed it because they had absolutely no idea. If The Stones were going to perform, NBC would have promoted it. Stones on SNL = more viewers = sponsors are happy = more money. Keeping it a secret would be absolutely foolish.

Pat Smear in FF is great, I didn't know he was back with them either. Teddy thank you so much for all the insight and info. it's always great to see. But, only going on evidence and gut, I'll respectfully disagree with you about SNL. I have a feeling we're gonna witness the return of a "certain" band to the stage this Saturday Night, perhaps even accompanied by a pretty big annoucement.
