My theory is this: Jagger called the band together to rehearse with the possibility that the Stones would indeed appear on SNL. This is why they rehearsed hits like JJF and SMU. When it became apparent that the band (Keith) was not in condition to do the performance, he went to Plan B, which was Food Fight, Jeff Beck, etc. Keith must feel awful about this, but I do not believe it was a coincidence that the Stones' rehearsals were in NY right at the exact same time they would have needed to rehearse in order to do SNL. Why would Jagger bother adding Stones activity to an already-packed SNL schedule if this wasn't the plan? Taylor being there at the same time may just have been a coincidence. What a lost opportunity. But if Jagger performs Stones songs with these imposters, it pretty much proves my theory, or why do it?
No offense, but this theory of yours borders on the absurd. No chance this is how it went down.
Maybe it's not accurate - I did say "theory" - but given what we know I see no reason that it should be considered "absurd". If you know how it really "went down", please enlighten us, and I will be happy to revise my thinking.

What do "we" know that leads you to believe that your theory shouldn't be considered absurd? When I say 'no chance" I base that on common sense. It is absurd to think that the Rolling Stones couldn't nail down two songs for an appearance on SNL if that was the goal when they got together. It defies logic. There are other possibilities that make more sense. #1. The rehearsal could be for the coming documentary. #2. Could be just another session toward getting their "chops" down for the coming tour. #3. Could be the first session toward cutting a new album. #3. Maybe they cut a new song to be introduced tonight on SNL or are actually going to perform tonight? Unlikely, but more logical (albeit, slightly) than what you have suggested.

What a great ending for the show if Keith showed up and he and Mick walked off arm in arm. That is the dream I had last night.

Over 48,000 views and over 1000 posts (including mine right now) and the speculation and the postulating continues right up until show time! Wow, if many of you had been around during the Kennedy assasination, you would have had a field day collaborating with all the other conspiracy theorists who came out of the woodwork (LOL)! I don't know about you, but I'm going to be happy when this Jagger SNL appearance is over with...

Colonial, sometimes I find you're posts a bit absurd quite frankly.

Today this guy on the street stuck his tongue out at me. I think it's a sign. We all know the tongue is the iconic Stones logo. Stones on SNL tonight.

Apparently saying he looks like a 70 year old man (which he is), has dyed hair (which he does), and has wrinkles (which he does) is an insult.

So if you're 18 you're basically 21 then with that thinking. Right. It's easy to get the number right. If he dies tomorrow he still isn't 70.

Okay...68. And even at 68, he still looks like an old man with dyed hair. None of the points change.

Yeah, he is what he is and what he looks how he looks and that matches your description.
Just an observation eh.
