You said it sounds very much like the vegas era Sympathy. The big difference is in 75 there were 2 guitars driving the song whereas the 'vegas' version the emphasis is on Chuck Leavell and the backing singers.

Well it is starting to sound that way. With all the drums and piano, maybe I should have used other words besides "very much", but in comparison to Ya-Ya's it does sound pretty similar to Vegas Era. I didn't realize somebody was going to dissect my sentences.

Bottom line, it starting to sound like a big production as opposed to Ya-Ya's where it sounded like a a rock band. Like I said, I still like this version, and I know what Vegas era SFTD sounds like so you don't have to tell me (and I did mention that this version keeps the 60's guitar parts intact) I'm just saying I can see the direction it's heading towards when I listen to it.

Hey I wasn't trying to start an argument thumbs up I just responded to what you said about it sounding very much 'vegas'.

Love the way Jagger sings, LOVE it!

The boot confirms that Devil in 75 was just perfect.

So far, Liddas is VERY happy!!!

Best archive release so far.
Fantastic to have a 1975 show once and for all....

"I like the mix very well. not as brickwalled as Hampton".
True but it's still a bit hot to my ears.

"perhaps Bob Clearmountain got wind about the complaints"
I really hope so! Maybe some Stones insiders read IORR... winking smiley

Just got it and listenin' to it , I agreed , don't know if it's because I just got it, or if it's because I'm more used to the 1973's shows, but this one kick ass a bit more than Brussels, what a treat !

I don't know for sure but i don't think the brickwalled sound has anything to do with Bob Clearmountain. I thought he was the one who mixed these shows, and someone else mastered them. It is during the mastering were you get the brickwalled sound. Then again maybe he did also master them.

Got to agree with some of the question marks around Mick's performance on this. The band sound great, but he's all over the place.

Check the Waveforms from the FLAC version! Brickwalled to deaththumbs down

Why Why?

I'm just fascinated by Mick's delivery here. He's completely off the rails yet still hitting all the marks throughout the songs. It's unbelievable that he was able to sustain SOME kind of focus even in whatever state he was in.

I am not sure -with LA I have to bring the gain up with 4 dB to get the best sound, with Hampton I had to bring it down with 9 dB.

Anyway -I really find the performance of each and every track vastly superior over anything before this tour.

There's a minor point though -Ollie Brown can hardly be heard. I always loved his bells and whistles, like there's really a party going on on stage. But now only a cowbell once in while can be heard.

And we need more cowbell!

It sounds pretty great to my ears. I've really been happy with all three releases.

Also, I think you're doing it wrong if you have to "look" at waveforms to "see" if the music is brickwalled and then decide you don't like it.

Great performance but don't like the "plastic sound". Why do they need to push up levels so high that nothing breath anymore? It makes the music sounds so flat, static and forced. Shame on the people who take this kind of decisions. Our ears desserve better.

There is no "Depth" in the music. It's mastered way to loud. When you are listening with €300 earphones and audiophile ears you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong nothing to do with performance and/or music but only mastering.

The music is pure rock 'n roll!

Play the FLAC files with vlc player (which is free). Open the pre-amp tool of vlc and move the cursor down to whatever figure you find necessary (for me it's minus 7 dcool smiley. I guarantee this trick will greatly attenuate the hot mastering. thumbs up

Why should I ?
My ears tell me it sounds great.
Now I need my eyes to tell me what my ears should hear ?
Cut that technical crap and just enjoy the music.

It makes the brickwalled sound less hot but doesn't remove the flatness of the sound.

I could name 8 shows from 75 that are hotter than this one but hey it's time for rejoicing not bitching.

Still... >grinning smiley< the nice SB shows what the great Millard recording hinted at : this July 13 show was a up-and-down affair.
Some songs were superbly performed others not so much. The "bad" songs verge on "boring" (imo). "Its Only Rock N Roll" or "Dice" clearly lack spark.

OK, so if this IS multi-tracks being used as the source then we are technically getting an unheard recording of a show we know by heart - thanks to audience tapes.

I think it sounds great. I get a kick out of how people on here use terms like brickwall or compression or limiting as if these processes automatically ruin a recording. It's how these processes are tempered and which frequencies they're applied to that makes or breaks the sound. Assuming they're always bad is remiss and ignores what is often an essential part of the mastering process. This release sounds just right to me and I hope they continue to master the concerts in this vein.

IORR from LYL is the best live version imo.
