Cleveland is dreadful - my understanding is the Stones were blown off stage by opener Kansas which will tell you how bad they were.

It was dark and rainy all day and there was just an ugly vibe in the air. Kansas was well received but Peter Tosh most assuredly was not. The Stones played horrifically, Jaggers voice was a coked out croak and his gaunt appearance under that red cap freaked people out. There was, of course, the knucklehead contingent who didn't know or care to know, the Some Girls stuff so they set about lighting cherry bombs. The whole show was less than 90 minutes which pissed people off as well since the Stones had provided a nearly three hour tour de force in the same venue three years earlier. Also, the show ENDED in the late afternoon. I was back in Toledo by 7pm or so.

I remember the 'ugly vibe,' now that you mention it. I was almost trampled at the gates. Thanks for the description, which brought back memories.

Lots of bikers and lots of cherry bombs. It was a scary vibe.

The show itself was to me better than the Philly show two weeks earlier, although I've heard a boot of that show and it doesn't sound as bad as I remember.

My first two Stones shows!

Is the NOLA show in circulation?

They did "Satisfaction" is Philly too.
The pics from Cleveland are the ones where Jagger looks odd: in the leather jacket, with flat hair.

<<Is the NOLA show in circulation?>>

Glam, it is. And it's a fantastic performance imo
Along with the Palladium gig, NOLA is the '78 show I listen to the most

Memphis - Mid-South Coliseum - Great show!

Probably Detroit for me. 1978 is such a difficult tour to summarize with a soundbyte. Some shows are off-the-charts amazing; others...well. Well, maybe the soundbyte is 'the last tour that didn't 'matter' in a modern-day corporate sense and therefore was just rock 'n roll...for good and bad at times..."

As years and years go by I'm liking '78 more and more, in a way that I didn't appreciate at the time, or for many years after.

Chicago Soldier Field July 8 1978. I think they played Satisfaction as last song I was there but memory is getting fuzzy.

Detroit seems like the best. We only have a few songs from it, though.

Well that's not really true, we're only missing 5 songs; "Far Away Eyes", "Respectable", "Sweet Little Sixteen," Brown Sugar" and "Jumpin Jack Flash"

Detroit IS the best show of the tour, though - IMO. Other great ones, Chicago, Myrtle Beach and New York City.....as a starter.
Mostly, the stadium shows were not good, only the gigs at smaller venues. Chicago and 2nd Anaheim are exceptions.

Yeah, you're right. The liner notes on the boots I have are dodgy at best.

How many SB-tracks have surfaced from the Memphis-show, btw?

I have several pics from the Cleveland show that I took. I was fairly close to the stage for it being a stadium show. I will dig them up and post one or two.

New York-Academy of Music...

I thought it was played at New York Palladium....? Is this the same venue, only in different names?
Yes, is the same place, used to be Academy of music, then it was changed to New York Palladium.

It was my first Stones show. Front row center 14 years old. I have the show that circulates I thinks it's "Some Girls are Bigger than Others" but it is obviously not all Memphis.

See that huge spotlight on stage (Bill's side)? At the first Anaheim show that I was at, some doofus working backstage moved it so it was shining straight out into the audience, blinding everyone in its path. Of course he moved it at the end of JJF, the very end.

Here's some of my pix from Cleveland '78. I also threw in a New Barbarians one from '79. Kinda blurry, but you get the idea.
