Indeed it was, but Mick's sense of picking the right musicians had improved heavily.
I have never heard a sloppy Slash - ever. I doubt you'll find much examples on Youtube to back that up either.
But I could be wrong...

Saw Buddy Guy a few times. never heard such a brittle, trebly guitar tone. very harsh sounding. terrible sound is right.

Whoa- I had the exact same experience when Woodstock was on local cable TV last week. As a teenager, I thought Alvin Lee was amazing. When "Goin' Home" finally ended my only emotion was relief. Not sure whats changed....

Not denying that Clapton is good but overrated. I like Cream and Dominos but he's hardly Jimi Hendrix.
With Slash I got the GnR, VR and solo stuff which I love but he's not that great either.
