Summer Romance, for me, was a classic example of going through the motions; musically it's basic, and that is doing it a favour. I don't like that kind of stuff, it's not what the Stones do best. If it was their attempt to emulate punk, they needn't have bothered cos nothing they ever did was punk as punk was in the UK. It might have fitted with some of the softer USA type punk but it just sounds like bubble gum rock to me.

I guess one man's coffee is one man's tea but this song is one of the best Stones songs ever, the whole 77-82 period is full of great music and inspiration, much because of their rejuvenated private lives and all the rest of it.
This tune is up there with Brown Sugar and Tumblin' Dice as a proper 1st class Rock N Roll tune, of which only The Stones can produce, and NO ONE else.

You can add this song to the list of trash rock songs the band did from that era. A little bit of that sound goes a long way with me. Even if I enjoy some of it, I feel like I'm slumming. It's a cheap way to convey energy and excitement.
i'll drink to that
