If possible, this version has even more energy:

I can't believe they haven't played this live.

Re: Summer Romance

The rehearsed it, and even planned to do it, on the 81 tour. Unfortunately, they didn't...

SNL 1978: Played live (rehearsal).

You can add this song to the list of trash rock songs the band did from that era. A little bit of that sound goes a long way with me. Even if I enjoy some of it, I feel like I'm slumming. It's a cheap way to convey energy and excitement.

It's the only Some Girls outtake that was kept for Emotional Rescue. Quite the same feeling as songs such as Lies or Respectable. Definitely a Some Girls era song.

Would have been great for the b-stage.

I thought "Where the Boys Go" was also a SOME GIRLS outtake. Ah well, maybe not.

First version of Where The Boys Go appeared during early sessions of Emotional Rescue at RCA studios in 1978.

Yeah, but this by the numbers is way better than Stones by the numbers of more recent vintage. I like it!

I like it. Closest I've heard the Stones sounding to the Sex Pistols. Maybe Mick was listening to Holidays in the Sun when he wrote it. Maybe not...

Too much rock and too little roll imo. Just like a lot og the rockers in those days. I think Let me go on the album is good, and much better than the live versions, just because og the tempo and lack of roll.

I don't know, I think the song needs the more drawling, laid-back vocal on the finished track, so that it doesn't sound so forced.

Since the Pistols got the riff of "Holidays In the Sun" from "In The City" by The Jam, I guess all's fair in love and music.

But seriously...

The Stones "punk" period is heard in these songs:

"Respectable"

"Lies"

"Summer Romance"

"Where The Boys All Go"

"Hang Fire"

Everything has a lean, adrenaline sound. But there's a sameness to it. Not much of a groove, and I miss Keith's riffs. Like punk in general, this phase really went nowhere for them.

The Stones at their low pont. Crap period. Crap song.

Summer Romance, for me, was a classic example of going through the motions; musically it's basic, and that is doing it a favour. I don't like that kind of stuff, it's not what the Stones do best. If it was their attempt to emulate punk, they needn't have bothered cos nothing they ever did was punk as punk was in the UK. It might have fitted with some of the softer USA type punk but it just sounds like bubble gum rock to me.
