Is this a photo of Keith at Altamont?
Posted by: swiss ()
Date: January 23, 2014 05:36

Hi all -- sorry, that's a pretty tabloidy Subject line. I'm almost 100% sure this is not Keith at Altamont,
tho it appeared on the web as such.

So, any idea where and when this photo is from?

thanks!

Why is he two rows ahead of Charlie? Drummers get no respect.

Hi all -- thanks! I have only seen Keith in the outfit with the navy t-shirt and pink scarf outfit
at Isle of Wight, so that threw me -- also didn't notice dear Charlie back there.

I see it is the same outfit -- same pants and what looked to me in the photo above to be a pink
blouse is the pink scarf.

thanks again!

Isle of Wight-Watching Bob Dylan and the Band.
Looks like Charlie is with Shirley...
There is another pic: Keith Richards at the Isle of Wight 1969 "Images".

Keith Richards had this to say:

I saw (The Band) at the Dylan gig on the Isle of Wight and I was disappointed. Dylan was beautiful, especially when he did songs by himself. He has a unique rhythm which only seems to come off when he's performing solo. The Band were too strict. It was like they were just playing the records on stage and at a fairly low volume, with very clear sound. I like some distortion, especially if something starts happening on stage. (NME, December 6, 1969

But who was the guy with him on that pic? Thats the puzzler . .
Don't think it's J. Miller. He looks like the guy from Switzerland. But that was some years later.

Interesting article. Interview obviously took place before the '69 tour but it was the publication date that caught my eye: Week Ending December 6, 1969. Just kind of interesting to see a pre-tour article with THAT date on it.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Sorry Keith but I've seen both you and the Band live and any version of their's could a kicked your ass off of any stage at any time. Some nerve saying you were disappointed in them. Love your sound fron the 60's to about 1981 then zip. While the Band on the other hand were ALWAYS steller and I doubt ever did have as off a night as what you've had, more often than not. They also never insulted me by chargeing way more for tickets than the ageing band was worth and their later stuff was often as good as the earlier stuff. Jubilation and Jericho were both fantastic records while unfortunately your own efforts since the early 80's haven't exactly set the world on fire.

Why doesn't he have the right to say he was disappointed--in 1969--if he was? He didn't say they were bad, he said they lacked spontaneity (they presumably had restrictions imposed on them by Dylan, anyway). I saw both bands too, the Band at least twice, and they were great on their own. Accompanying Dylan, which was what Keith was talking about, I wouldn't have described them as stellar. A pretty good back-up band, yes.

I don't know the guy sporting the Little Lord Fauntleroy 'do. He could be a lot of people: Tommy Weber, Fat Jacques the Cook, Johnny Braces, Donovan, Taffy, Jean de Breteuil, Stash the Race Car Driver, Dominique Tarle, etc. Quite a few possibilities.

It was a crazy time and those drug-hazed memories get hazier each day.

Um, because I don't believe the dude you say is Spanish Tony is really Spanish Tony. Especially in 1969.

But I was trying to put it nicely. And I don't feel like bickering, especially about such a small thing.

Looks like Spanish Tony in the hat & fringed jacket to me. Here he is about 10 years later:

Wherever he was I wonder how long it took for the people around him and Charlie to realize who was sitting amoungst them? Wouldn't that just freak you out to find Keith Richards sitting right beside you somewhere?
