Eight Reasons Why The Stones Will Keep Rolling
Posted by: stonescrow ()
Date: July 20, 2010 00:02

#1. PASSION: They absolutely love what they do.

#2. HISTORY: It defies logic to think that they would shut things down while at the doorstep to their historic 50th anniversary as a band. There is no way that door doesn't get kicked down!

#3. US: They are married to their fans. Till death do us part!

#4. PROFESSIONAL PRIDE: Wan't to prove to the world they can still create great music and perform it at a high level.

#5. MONEY: Any tour involving the Stones is a guaranteed money maker.

#6. ADDICTION: They are hopelessly addicted to performing.

#7. DESTINY: Couldn't quit if they wanted to, destiny would not allow it!

#8. THE WATCHMAN: A Mystery to be revealed on July 12, 2012!

Ridiculous that nobody would underwrite the tour after A Bigger Bang's success.

One guy fell and had a serious head injury, another guy has been battling alcohol & drug addiction almost constantly since they last toured. They're all in their mid to late 60s. And the world economy has gone tits up.

No risk there for anyone with a spare $100-200 million or so to throw around.

The only reason they might keep rolling a little longer. And as long as the economy stays "tits up" as someone else so accurately put it, even this one is questionable.

I've said it before, I'lls say it again, I love coming here b/c there are folks like me who eat, breathe, and think of the Stones. I don't have too many friends that actually like them. I can't stand this "new" music. Watching Black Eyed peas on EPIX last night, you call that a concert?

I was a teenager in the sixties so you can guess where my loyalties lie. The Stones were just inside my top ten back then and did not make it to #1 until I saw a replay of the HBO concert at MSG in '03. I was absolutely blown away! I thought to myself that I had seen the greatest live concert performance in the history of rock 'n' roll. Later, I realized that every show the Stones do is the greatest of all time which by itself confirms what Sam Cutler said many years ago (and repeated recently) that the Rolling Stones are indeed, the greatest rock 'n' roll band in the world.

There is no denying that health is going to be a big factor from here on out. I was astonished at the stamina they showed during the last tour. They will definitely have to scale things back this time around. No need for Mick to keep up the aerobics show to be effective on stage, however, I wouldn't be surprised to see him still flying around the stage, he's the Jack LaLanne of rock 'n' roll.

Fill in whatever you wish for #2-7, #1 trumps all of them combined.

#1. PASSION: They absolutely love what they do.

- To a point. The problem is they have lost a step at being really passionate with it.

#2. HISTORY: It defies logic to think that they would shut things down while at the doorstep to their historic 50th anniversary as a band. There is no way that door doesn't get kicked down!

- Sure there is - if they don't do anything, the "historical" aspect of it means nothing other than some magic number a bunch of people feel good about.

#3. US: They love their fans! No way they are going to let us down!

- Ha ha.

#4. PROFESSIONAL PRIDE: Wan't to prove to the world they can still create great music and perform it at a high level.

- Well, they can't anymore. What "high level" do you mean? See #1.

#5. $: Any tour involving the Stones is a guaranteed money maker.

- They didn't make as much money as they could have on the Bang tour because they over-played some markets. If they were to do a smaller tour (less shows in fewer cities) they might be able to make a big enough amount to justify the gigantic stage(s).

#6. ADDICTION: They are hopelessly addicted to the big stage! Would only leave kicking and screaming!

- You left out posing.

#7. DESTINY: Couldn't quit if they wanted to, destiny would not allow it!

- I think they could be viewed as how some trees are: 70 years to grow to maturity, 100 to 1000 years of maturity, 70 years to die. Nothing can be done in the last 70 years to keep the tree alive even though it still looks alive for the most part. Unfortunately it could be that the decline has already occurred, it just now has to be accepted.

Of course it would be fantastic if they did indeed tour and they played well. But if they don't play well, the ticket prices will be screamed at and the legacy will have been damaged. To a point anyway.

The higher risk simply means they'd be willing to pay out less or demand a higher premium to take it on, not that they wouldn't sign up for it.

well, you "reload" my heart with some injection of optimism and hope..

..the Stones will keep Rolling, no doubt about that..

I used to spend so much time in the alps in my childhood (skiing), and I can tell you that, when Stones keep rolling off the mountain, it's not me who's gonna stop them, no matter what feeds them, snow, mud or heartfelt musical debauchery..

The question is, how high is the mountain

...it's still a lot of money and risk regardless. And doesnt address the question of whether the Stones would even get out of bed for a guarantee substantially less than what they've become used to (successfully) demanding previously.

My prediction is that the Stones will stay together and be fairly active for the next 2-3 years. After their 50th anniversary hooplah winds down though, I wouldn't be surprised if they retire.

You are joking right ? One thing I have learned is that most Celebrities could care less about you or anyone else. They do things for themselves not you .
If you didn't have money the Stones or no one else would step foot on a stage. Look at the acts that have cancelled this summer already. Why ? No one is buying tickets to there shitty acts. So they fold the tent and will come back some other time Can theStones sell some tickets ? Yes but I am not so sure cities across the world will fill a stadium to see them anymore. And they won't do it unless they could. There are just to many people out there at this time who don't have expendable cash to shell out to see a band that charges way to much for a ticket. Even a shitty act can't sell tickets today
