Hansie, maybe a too personal question, and certainly not on topic, but well, just curious, so I'm asking: Don't you risk a potbelly, drinking all that beer (think also of that huge beer fridge in the WC-thread)? To be fair, I'm not a beer drinker. But always red wine during evening meal!

I like this one. It has what I would call a "rock and roll sensibility" to it. And to think, this lad's never even heard of Eric Clapton!

i heard Caravaggio did a self portrait of himself decapitated. i haven't seen it though.

In his painting of David and Goliath, he depicted his assistant (and lover) as David, and himself as the decapitated Goliath.
thanks for the info, tatters!
here's another caravaggio that i like. his painting of narcissus:

Since so many people here mention Caravaggio, this painter was heavily influenced by him. Caravaggio often had a little "camp" approach to painting young boys and men.
In the photo of Keith in his library - in another thread here - you can see a book about Caravaggio - from Caravaggio til Warhol - actually. He reads about them all.

Enjoy!
My favourite's called "Dawn", and is owned by David Bowie. The versions here are prints, but Bowie bought the painting from Nerdrum while in Oslo in 1992 with Tin Machine. Nerdrum gave him the sketch on which the painting was based...

So many beautiful paintings from the Dutch, Spanish,Italians, French,etc...impossible for me to have a runaway favorite.....unlike the rock'n'roll music world where the Stones are alone at the top.

Nice addition, hairball!

And tatters, I had the same thought -- in fact his vibe reminds me of Brian! I couldn't find the exact image I'm thinking of and am in a hurry but here's one with a similar expressions!

Yes, very similar. I think the mark of a great portrait is that it transcends time and nationality. A Rembrandt self-portrait, for example, is much more than a picture of a Dutch man living in the 17th century. It's a picture of ALL men, in ALL times, everywhere.

She is not dead or anything fancy like that,
but Jennifer Janesko creates some great works
of art. She is from KC, but she has been widely
printed and published [www.janesko.com]
You can actually still order original works from her.

Here is a page with a lot of her artwork... [www.janesko.com]
