Hansie, maybe a too personal question, and certainly not on topic, but well, just curious, so I'm asking: Don't you risk a potbelly, drinking all that beer (think also of that huge beer fridge in the WC-thread)? To be fair, I'm not a beer drinker. But always red wine during evening meal!

It´s not a potbelly, it´s a tank for a sexmachine!

Very romantic in the non-romantic sense of the word, so to speak.

Here are some more paintings of J.W. Waterhouse, some placed in the Greek and Roman classical period:

And here some paintings of the Dutch painter Isaac Israels (member of the group The Amsterdam Impressionists) from about the same period as J.W. Waterhouse (somewhat later):

I resisted placing this here ..... the first 5 times I saw this art work... but I think this deserves a spot in our gallery ..."every picture tells a story, dont it?"

Just returned from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

The building is undergoing renovation so only one wing is open, but I still managed to kill four-plus hours there!

It's a shame how many years that museum is still closed/partly open. Amsterdam is doing a very bad job with its great musea.

Maybe Amsterdamned can explain, but me being from Rotterdam I don't understand our arch rivals and friends from Amsterdam at all.

They have scaffolding up all around the building.
I'm assuming they're doing a total renovation, inside & outside.

Projected finish date is 2012 / 2013.

Edith Grove--did you see the Night Watch? I'd love to see it, love Rembrandt. I hope to get there, I really like a lot of the Dutch 17th century painting..gritty soulful stuff, a lot of it.

Edith, the renovation started in 2003! It had to be ready after 5 years, so in 2008/2009! Now they say it will be finished in 2012/2013. But it won't. Maybe 2015, maybe even later. It's a total failure and an utter disgrace.

It' s Cape Cod they put up shingles and allow them to " weather " . The shingles are never painted ( us yankees are thrifty ). The salt air ages them to a beautiful patina over time .

BTW . the best thing about this lighthouse is that it also abuts the 9th green of a golf course . My other passion !

I love it there , spent a lot of my youth there and it holds great memories for me . I want to retire there and have my ashes scattered upon the Atlantic .

Went down there last weekend to see Hurricane Earl but it fizzled out before it came ashore

i really love the mulberry bush by van gogh that starts this thread and what a great idea for a thread and what great posts and art to look at here...and commentary. just great. thanks all... i am totally square w art lately back into hudson river tradition and photo-realistic nature interpretations etc...but always drawn to van gogh and also very exposure to contemporary art exhibits and the west side of l.a.(santa monica and traditionally venice) are meccas for contemp art and sculpture exhibits...'art walks' and openings so common here now. used to be chiefly west hollywood for the contemp art scene but no more...before venice became so savagely gentrified.,..well it's an interesting history abbot kinney developed the entire city around his vision of ancient venetian art and architecture. contemp art lovers amidst us and around the world might want to enjoy a peek hit Wiki or may wants to google Venice or Abbot Kinney...

so many rockers make art. that's interesting to me...lets see Ronnie, grace slick...who else? a surprising number. dylan just had a major opening of new large paintings and seems to be very active with this...joni mitchell for sho...
...hmmm. got to theenk who else
