Great fight between Contador and Schleck. It seemed like they are equally strong. Schleck tried but couldn't beat Contador. Saturday the race against the clock. But I think that Contador will be stronger than Schleck. But then again, hard to say man, hard to say, you never can tell.

I knew more about de Tour than I did about football.
I have watched in the past when Lance was kicking ass, but
believe it or not, I was early to call BS when what-his-name
came out of no where to win the tour. He juts made up too much
time too quickly so It seemed he had to be juiced, thne he denied
and then they busted him...and he denied it and thenit got ugly,
and that turned me off.. I do not think Lance ever juiced,
no matter what the nay sayers may cliam. he has been over tested,
he just has a large heart and lungs, I think they have tested that to to be true.

But I have not watched the de Tour the last couple of years,
so I am glad you were pumping it up...it brought me back.

I do not recall any stage being as close as todays..or two
riders being only 8 seconds apart at this point in the race...
but you know more history...and I appreciate you sharing.

Thnaks for that link........ I will watch the rest ...8 seconds
will be hard to overcome...but mechanical problems gave him that
lead..and they could take it away.....I will be watching .... Thanks Hansie.

Contador has to be more than 39 seconds faster than Schleck this Saturday, otherwise his yellow jersey won't be spotless. The Tour history has a very long memory.

Our Dutch friend Robert Gesink was hindered by the fools on the Tourmalet. He's doing very well, ranking 6th and only 24 years old in his second (but actually first) TdF.

Tyler Hamilton and Greg Lemond are going to court and witness in the case about drug-using etc. on the US Postal team. Tyler was in USP in period from 1998-2001. Let's see what they will bring of news. The story seems to continue and will go on for ever.

I'am getting tired about these never ending drug- using stories.
Lance was by far the best TdF cyclist in history.
Even if you snort cocaine like K.Richards has done, without talent and passion you
don't win 7 times.

Talking about drugs in sports, does anyone knows if all sports runs the same rules or which sports are free drug test?
Cycling, athletics, football,... for sure there are strong tests but what about Formule 1 and motorcycling and...

Nobody´s saying Contador let Shcleck win today, and how they took hands? After his mistake, he let him win today.

So, Max whatever, does that sound like support for our extremely eager correspondent in the Spanish tourism industry?

I watched the race, and I thought it was a great contest.... very grueling and
I think it insults both racers to say anyone "allowed" anybody anything, let alone a free win ...but that is just my opinion.

This is not to mention the fact that a mechanical problem gave cuntador the
yellow jersey, and mechanical problems can take it away.... we will see.

In retrospect Lance Armstrong winning this race 7 times is extraordinary.

Very much looking forward to today's stage. Still a lot of competition around the green jersey. Hushovd has proven really strong, even in the mountain stages - but is missing the top speed in the sprints - or does he? Can he beat Petacchi and Cavendish today?

Actually this has been quite common in the Tour de France as long as I can remember. Two riders ahead. One of them is only interested in winning the yellow jersey in Paris. The other one just wants to win a stage, keeps riding in front, thus helping the yellow jersey, in the end he may win the stage cause the yellow jersey has won more time.

Absolutely:
Hushovd: 191
Petacchi: 187
Cavendish: 162

Lots of points to win in today's stage.

The other one just wants to win a stage, keeps riding in front, thus helping the yellow jersey, in the end he may win the stage cause the yellow jersey has won more time.

Meaning: the yellow jersey doesn't give everything to win the stage in the end. So it will always remain unclear who would have won if both did the best they could in the very final part of the stage yesterday. That's not the same as: 'Contador let Schleck win'. It's more subtle, like many things in cycling are subtle. For instance, Carlitos says up here: <Cyclism is on the best or the BEST individual sport>. That seems true, but isn't, because the team they're in can and often is very important for the best cyclers. Not only for the sprinters, but also for the climbers. Only the individual races against the clock (contre le montre) are pure "individual sport." This special combination of team and individual achievement and all the tactical elements make the Tour de France such a special and interesting event (regardless of the beautiful scenery).

Understanding all the tactical possibilities etc. requires some experience and intelligence. So I knew very quickly (also because of the wheather conditions) that Schleck's attack wouldn't happen before the Tourmalet (if he would be able to attack anyway, because that's never predictable).

1974 - A fifth win for Eddy Merckx

Known as “The Cannibal”, the Belgian Eddy Merckx lived up to his reputation by gobbling up the miles, setting the record for days in the Yellow Jersey (96) as well as for stage victories (34). He is also the only rider to have won all the separate classifications of Le Tour.
