Was strange to see Contador sliding down on his seat all the time. That must have been annoying for him and a bad seating for him all the time needing to push his butt back.

The difference is exactly 39 seconds, the time Contador won because of the chain incident!!! So IF ... they would have ended equally...

Yes,that was my question. What would happen if they started or ended equally tomorrow ?

Are there rules or gentleman agreements?

What would happen if both Schleck and Contador start or end equal in Paris?
Is there a rule for that?

Well, you know that the Tour de France was born in 1903.
So at this time they've decided a rule if there are two guys with the same time :

Just checked the official rules of the TdF :

- the 1/100 sec. from the races against time, like today (and the first day), are added to each total time of both runners.
And if they're again both "in yellow" after that :
- all the ranks of each day are added (1 + 2 +35 +...)
And finally :
- the rank of the final day on the Champs Elysées in Paris.

Thank you arizojp. Here the same as at Rolling Hansie's: never knew that. But I hope to see those rules to be applied one day.

The shortest flat stage for more than twenty years

The last stage of Le Tour, with its prestigious finish on the Champs-Élysées, will also be the year’s shortest, with only 102.5 kilometres on the counter. Sometimes, stages have been shorter due to restrictions imposed by adverse weather conditions, but in normal racing conditions you have to go back to 1989, to the stage between Bourg d’Oisans and Villard-de-Lans, to find a shorter one. It was only 91.5 kilometres long and was won by Laurent Fignon. He thought that the fifty seconds lead he held over Greg LeMond would be sufficient for victory in Paris, but in the end, he lost by only eight seconds.

Paris Champs-Élysées

• Traditional finish of the Tour de France
• Population: 2,200 000
• Capital of France
• Capital of the Ile-de-France Region – City – County of Seine (75)

For the last 35 years the most beautiful avenue in the world has provided the Tour de France with a gem of a location for its grand finale. Walter Godefroot was the first to win on the Champs, since followed by all of cycling’s greatest sprinters, and some phenomenal hard-hitters. Indeed, only a hard-hitter like Bernard Hinault could prevent the final home stretch from being a sprint finish.

Paris loves cycling and is delighted to welcome to its unique setting, like every year for more than a century, the breath-taking sprint of the Tour de France’s heroes. What better a sight is there than this Homeric battle of a finish that snakes for several kilometres through the streets of the French capital’s centre and the exceptional avenue of the Champs-Elysées? This carnival of sport that brings together Parisians and many tourists enables us to celebrate cycling in its full diversity. It brings to mind another popular and audacious great adventure, the Vélib bicycle service, which is now celebrating its third anniversary. It now accounts for 71 million journeys and exists in 30 of Paris’ neighbouring municipalities. Today, it is possible to use almost 600 km of cycling tracks. It is therefore with great pleasure that Paris offers its streets to bicycle-lovers and especially to the athletes of the Tour who delight us year upon year and who, from the Yellow Jersey winner to the wooden spoon holder in the final standings, all deserve to be lauded with the same praise.

The battle for the yellow jersey was decided yesterday. Contador will win Le Tour de France.
No way that he will loose his advantage during the last stage. Only an accident can keep him away from the victory.

The battle for the green jersey though ain't over yet.

1.PETACCHI Alessandro: 213 pts
2.HUSHOVD Thor: 203 pts
3.CAVENDISH Mark: 197 pts

All three of them still have the chance to win the green jersey, depending on which place they will finish today, and how many points they will get during the two intermediate sprints.
I haven't found out how many points exactly they can win today. Maybe arizojp can help again ?

Found it. The points for today.

At the finish line:
35 Points for the winner, then 30 - 26 - 24 - 22 - 20 - 19 - 18 - 17 - 16 - ... - 1

Intermediate sprints:
6 - 4 - 2

Question: Who do you consider the best cyclist of all times?

My answer: The Cannibal, Eddy Merckx from Belgium.
That's the only correct answer, as any true cycling fan will agree.

Now, a more interesting question would be: who is the second best cyclist of all time?

More interesting perhaps but certainly more difficult. My vote goes to Bernard Hinault, nickname: The Badger, in French: Le Blaireau.

Second? Hinault,beyond any doubt.

Who's the third best? That's a difficult one...

Three different generations..Anquetil gets my vote.

Btw It was Merckx (?) who said: "Lance is a great cyclist, but he does't belong to the absolute top...
They won everything".

OK, so now we can vote for #201. I would say Harrie Steevens (de witte raaf) from Elsloo

Okay, I agree, because Harrie is a Dutch Limburger too.

"Het toeval wil dat de Amstel Gold Race van 1968, die door Steevens gewonnen werd, de enige was die ooit in zijn geboorteplaats Elsloo finishte."

Het was bovendien zijn belangrijkste overwinning!

Peter Winnen also won the stage to Alpe d'Huez in 1983. In the Tour of 1981 (his first one): 5th place, in the Tour of 1983: 3rd place. Best Dutch Limburgian cyclist.

Herinner je je nog dat Heras in een eindsprint met z'n pedaal in een hekwerk bleef hangen en over de kop sloeg? Over hekwerken gesproken...
