I say bring back 'Up With People'. At least you know what you're getting.

Rock bands playing a 12-minute mini-set (usually with songs truncated or done as medleys) as a sideshow/half time cabaret for a sports event with all the cheesy gimmicks and constraints (ludicrous censorship standards, crap sound etc) that the NFL and TV companies place on them - yuk.

Most of them have been a bit underwhelming, to be honest. The Stones, Bruce and Macca were all decent without showing them at their best. U2's was well done. Prince and Tom Petty were very good. The rest were instantly forgettable musically. I hope I'm wrong because they're one of my favourite bands, but The Who could end up embarrassing themselves. Pete's still playing like a demon, but Roger's voice is shot to pieces.

The most disappointing half time show featured Diana Ross. She could have used the opportunity to save grace yet it turned out to be yet another self serving parade/episode. Certainly not reflective of the Motown past or agenda.

Do not recollect which Superbowl.

There has never been a good half time show. It's impossible.

Janet Jackson!

Specifically, it's too short to have it be worth a shit. I liked Bruce's half time, for the most part. I liked the Stones. I even liked Prince's show. But it's too short.

According to the results so far Bruce is in the lead with %53 the Stones are second with %17. Sounds about right to me.

Good to see that the 80's was as grim a decade for half time shows as it was for music in general.

Let's all hope for this years Super Bowl that they go with some pre-recorded vocals for Yoko Daltry.

I would say Diana Ross was one of the best halftime shows. My other favorites are The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, U2 and of course Janet Jackson.

That the Stones were the ones who played completely live. I know Petty and Springsteen in recent years were both completely live.

Here in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the Blind Pig will be holding their seventh annual "Stupor Bowl" party. The "big game" is shown on one small TV with the sound turned down, surrounded by PILES of other television sets, all showing something, anything, OTHER than the Super Bowl, while local bands perform live. Audience members are encouraged to bring in their own video material to be shown on the various TV sets, the more peculiar the better.

This is how the Super Bowl really SHOULD be experienced, and if I didn't already have other plans, that's probably where I'd be.
