OT or not OT : Sympathy For The Devil by Bon Jovi !!!

What a shock, wasn´t aware that he covered Sympathy even last year as far as I realized looking here and there...nevertheless this comes from Wembley ´97.
Comes close to the horrible Gimme Shelter version by Meat Loaf in the early eighties.

Susan Boyle,respect again !

OK,I am no Bon Jovi fan, but give credit to the man for doing a good job in covering this one. You have a percussionist in flesh and bones (not all do ...), and let me add, a good one too! The keyboardist stays close to the original version, in particular, on the finale. I don't think that Nicky would have disliked it. The bass and drums do their job. The Whoo Whoo section is great. They even do bit when they go up and then down again. I don't like the arrangement with the guitars coming in on the chorus, but I guess I know who they picked that up from.

All in all, I enjoy this version more than the Stones current take of it.

Hmmm, wasn't it a 'allstar' band, Because Chuck on keys and Nathan East on Bass...

If yes, it was fortunatly a once in a lifetime appearance.

Keep on rollin'

It'd be great if Chuck played this arrangement instead on the tinkling...

The tinkling started on the Licks tour, didn't it?

reminds me of the horrible version by guns n' roses. noticed he left out quite a few verses as if he wanted to do a wicked song but not hurt his squeaky clean image. the only good cover i've ever heard of this song was by jane's addiction

Two good things about this: The young audience learns something about the Stones & the arrangement with real bongos and congas sounds great and
should be done live by the Stones instead of the loops.

Here´s a great one:

I'd rather have HIV, but thanks anyway.

Ok, it's easy to bash them from a musical perspective (and I'll rarely pass up the opportunity), but if any artist is paying tribute to the Stones by covering their music and giving it a wider audience, thats never really a bad thing.

Credit to them for doing that, at least.

I saw them open for the Stones in Paris in 1995. It was a truly horrible experience, and 75 minutes of my life that I'll never get back, but it was quite obvious from their onstage comments that they love the Stones and were honoured to be their opening act (even though they were on a tour where in some countries they were actually outdrawing the Stones)

I think its great, weak vocals but the band is rockin and having a real good time. Jon is trying and really into it.
Plus, whoevers sings this song has to try a few Mick moves...even at home in the shower.

Good job Jon

Didn't realise this was a song to 'sing' like that. He made it into a pop song. Lisa singing back up, tinkly piano.

'orrible.

I would think if you're gonna 'honour' someone you should fuucking do it, not ponce it like that.

If an artist pays tribute to another one it´s great.
If an artist is taking another artist´s music (or whatever) to celebrate himself
it´s fogettable in best case.

Compared to Springsteen´s recent Satisfaction or Susan Boyles Wild Horses version
this is just lousy,no credit at all deserved.

There's a first on here. Me being criticised for not being hard enough on Bon Jovi and at the same time not giving Springsteen enough credit.

(For the record, I chose not to listen to Bon Jovi doing SFTD because there are too many sharp objects in the house, so I cant comment on the content)

Ehm,no.
You´re right that´s an easy one to bash Bon Jovi.Wasn´t intended at all til I watched this clip this afternoon and the bad surprise coming along with it.
One could say no matter how he had tried he had to fail, that´s right.

Where do I criticise you being too "soft" to BJ and too "hard" with Springsteen ?
I just want to point out that paying tribute is a thin line, sometimes it works, sometimes not.
This doesn´t usually depends on special artists of course.
To be honest,I can´t imagine, but even Bon Jovi will be able to do a nice and respectful coverversion (or did already).

And no,Gazza, neither I want you or anyone else HIV infected nor be forced to watch a clip ...why should I.

At least he has real musicians playing real instruments, not the prerecorded crap that the Stones use,in Chuck's keyboards..
Having said that,l must also state that l can't stand Bon Jovi, but in this song kudos to him..

Bryan Ferry is very good at doing coversongs - he's doing it almost tongue-in-cheek, yet not really making fun of the song. A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall is also very very good
