R.I.P.

Loved his early stuff, lost track of him after that, I'm sure that was my loss.

Loog Droog: the album was released in Europe in 1980; Capitol U.S. did not know what to do with it and held it back for about a year!!!

I bought the import when if first came out.

Yeah, I know about the whole trip with Capitol on the U.S. release. An exec was quoted in Rolling Stone about how he wouldn't release a record with a song with an accordion on it! ("Mazurka" was the track and it was replaced by another song on the U.S. version) Of course, now you hear accordions all the time (Right, Bob?) and I've always wondered if that guy missed out on the whole World Music thing just because his ears were so closed.

I don't think it took an entire year for Capitol to come around though. If I remember correctly, they announced that the album would come out in the USA at the show I saw in the summer of '80.

The Expanded Le Chat Bleu on Raven Records is a must-have for fans of that disc.

By the way, at that Roxy show for the industry crowd, Willy performed a killer version of "Mazurka!" Right in their face.

He was the man.

Willy,I'm gonna miss you man! Really heartbreaking. This guy has always had a special place in my heart. I never saw him live but I do have a couple of his concert dvd's.The last one "Live in the Lowlands" is wonderful. I will cherish them even more now. Everytime I bust out some albums to play I always play one of his. And will continue to do so.

Teardrops Must Fall.

I'm shocked!
Willy's been one of the great ones!

Additionally I'm personally concerned as I am struggling with the same disease.

Best wishes, power and strength for you,Cousin.
Hope you have some beloved ones at your side supporting you...

Just seen it on the news. This is very sad.

I did see him live just a year ago at a festival. I was front row and thought what a cool man he is, nearly cooler than Keith......(forgive me)....

RIP

Just like to add my condolences. Saw Mink DeVille at Leicester in the late 70's and got their first 2 albums. Recently re-discovered some of Willy DeVille's solo material. A great talent, never really recognised. Gonna play "I Broke That Promise" right now

I hate it - the man had so much class. Lee van Cleef of rock'n roll. For some reason I liked his late albums a whole lot more than the early ones; eventhough it was in that era that I saw him many, many times. But those late day albums are hard to find today, and even on amazon ask for 40-50 $.
Put him in the Hall of Fame indeed.

This is way to early, couldn't believe it when I read the papers this morning. But hey he lived a rough fast life, it´s not so surprising when you think of it twice.
Saw him three times over the years, glad I did! RIP Willy.

Thanks a lot to you nice people that had some kind words for me too! Very much appreciated!

Really feeling not too good at the moment - having also lost my wife 3 years ago in a crash.
"it really hits home sometimes . ."

I'm tryin to suppress it at the moment.

But this of course is great Willy's thread!
