Hang in there Willy! Haven't forgotten about you. Never will. I'm with you till the wheels come off the cadillac. Then we'll walk.

[musique.sfr.fr]

59-year-old American singer and songwriter Willy DeVille died of pancreas cancer during the night of August 6th in a New York hospital. Born August 27th, 1953, DeVille began his career in New York in the mid-70's with his band Mink DeVille, garnering success in Europe with songs such as Spanish Stroll (1977), and later in the United States with his album Le Chat Bleu (1980), which blended punk rock with elements from French cabaret tradition such as accordion. DeVille then pursued a career under his own name, releasing albums on a regular basis until 2008, and once more hitting the Europeans charts with a mariachi cover version of traditional song Hey Joe in 1992.

59-year-old American singer Born August 27th, 1953,

Hmmm.

That is very sad news. I saw five Mink DeVille shows, and I thought that one of them--in 1980 at the Roxy when Le Chat Bleu came out in the U.S.--was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen by anybody. It was so good it was almost unreal.

He was an incredible talent, one that never received enough credit, even when he got the exposure. [He performed a song he wrote for The Princess Bride on the Academy Awards!]

I think at some point his music will be discovered by a new generation that is looking for music with genuine heart and soul.

He deserved more acclaim when he was alive.

I'm shocked!
Willy's been one of the great ones!

Additionally I'm personally concerned as I am struggling with the same disease.

CousinC--first, prayers to you

Second, this news forced a tear--this guy was amazing

I shot him at Long Beach back in 1988

This is really sad news; "Le Chat Bleu" remains one of my all-time favourite album.
Loog Droog: the album was released in Europe in 1980; Capitol U.S. did not know what to do with it and held it back for about a year!!!
