...and Mark Quinones (spelling?) adds so much life to the new ABB sound. In fact, I may get sh!t for saying this but he is head and shoulders above Jaimoe.....just my opinion.

I think you're right about Marc. But I wonder if age has to do with Jaimoe's "minimalistic" playing. I may catch more sh!t for saying this, but I think that's a big problem with Dickey Betts. Don't get me wrong, he's probably the single most important influence of mine when it comes to my guitar playing, but his playing, at times, is horrid. I've been listening to an audience recording of his show in NY this past Sunday and, although it's still Dickey Betts, it's not on the same level as Warren Haynes (who, I might add, is also getting very predictable), Derek Trucks, or, my favorite, Jack Pearson (a sadly unknown and very underrated guitarist - some of the stuff he did just blew me away. A friend of mine that has more contact with Jack commented that he has said that a lot of what he plays has been influenced, to some degree, by listening to and imitating harmonica players). Dickey tends to get lost as far as tempo is concerned and hits far too many bum notes as if he's not sure where he's going. The song selection the ABB has been doing since he was ousted in 2000 could have never been taken on by Dickey. I just don't think he's as sharp as he used to be.
By the way, if you're interested, I have a couple of good sources in the US that are hooking me up with audience recordings of the Beacon shows (I received a few recordings taken directly from the moogis stream, which sadly contain too much hiss that makes them virtually unlistenable) as they're made available (I have both shows already that have been played). Maybe I can hook you up when the run is over (I've got so many shows in MP3 format - unfortunately not FLAC or some other lossless format - that may be of interest to you as well, but we can talk about that later).
So, I'm going to bed now.
Take care and best regards,
E-Duane

Hey ED if you wouldn't mind. I wouldn't mind getting a show or two in MP3. Thanks much for starting the thread either way. Kinda somethin fun to follow for a couple weeks.

It's the WAY they do them - even the good ones.A better option would be to go see Dickey Betts - who is coming to NYC in May

Don't make me laugh. Part of the beauty of seeing the Allmans live is being blasted by that massive wall of rhythm! Dickey's rhythm section can't hold a candle to Oteil, Butch, Jaimoe, and Marc. All you DickeyBetts fans just need to face that the Allman Brothers Band has been better since Warren Haynes returned in 2001 than at any time since Duane Allman died in 1971 and that Dickey plays in a junior varsity bar band. That midget bully got fired for a reason and the ABB is better off without him.
