but, at $58.50 a pop, this breaks my limit, too.....decisions, decisions....

jeez, you whine about no west coast shows, then when some kind souls tell you about dates in Washington and Oakland you come up with excuses about mid week, too expensive ($58.50 is cheap) or no friends able to go in Wash.......come on Tod, live dangerously my friend.....have some fun.

whining = fun

WORD? What is "WORD"???!! This is NOT a rap site.

Admit it or not the Allman's have a propsensity to go on about 10 minutes too long for each song -- maybe they have a deal with the venue as one is likely to go up and get a beer while begging for the song to end.

Dickey Betts is a betetr option.

I could not disagree more. For many of the reasons mentioned about, Dickey would be the WORST choice. I've seen way to many of their shows over the years to think otherwise. Although Warren and Derek are not the original guitarists they have they have such cohesiveness its made for much better shows. The ABB group collaborates with the current line-up rather than the dictatorship I saw long ago. Anybody as a guest other than Dickey.

Saw Dickey last year at the Beacon in NYC- was fantastic plus every song did not go on for 10+ minutes. To each their own-- just don't like that on and on and on and on...

agree, although i'd also agree with an earlier post that suggests haynes is getting very predictable - actually that's been a problem for the last decade or so. derek, of course, is the new "god" in guitar playing...can't wait to catch him with jackie next month....

Derek is simply unreal. His very fluid style is hard to beat. He took the high road during the tour with Clapton and did not try and over reach (which does not to be his style anyway). I've watched his band grow over the past couple of years musically and technically. Those guys have a real future in this business.

yep. it's been a real pleasure watching this kid develop. remember seeing him for the first time - at the woodstock 25 year thing - at age 14 playing with the brothers - was impressive even then. but, each year since his style has evolved, been honed and refined. funny thing is - he's an amazing straight player, too - but seems like almost never plays without the slide...another side that will surely get more exposure as he matures...

i justified it by combining with the cost of the DTB show next month and dividing by two - works out in my favor. i'm not against doing some creative math if it helps justify my bad habits....

Allman Bros is one of my favourite bands and I always have Duane as a reference, his legacy is inmense with no doubt. I have seen Allman Bros only twice, ten years ago (30th Aniversary) in my first trip to California with Dickey and Derek on guitar. It was an unforgetable experience with back stage passes and cheating with the band members except Dickie and Greg. I also saw Gov't mule the same year (1999) in Berkley and a few years ago here in Barcelona. Dickey was playing in Barcelona last year too. I think they are all very different kind of guitar styles and I love them all. You can easily recognize who is playing.
Now, in their 40th Aniversary with all these guests.. must be amazing!

I got Dickey's signature in his last and only time he came to play in Barcelona.

Sometime in the late 70's, a friend and myself pulled into a gas station and there was Gregg Allman filling up his Rolls Royce (maybe it was a Bentley) My friend got out of the car and walked over to him and said, "Hey Gregg, how could you put regular gas in that car?" Gregg turned to him and said,"Oh, I don't care...I lease the Fvc#er".

I didn't know you could lease cars in the 70's.

Just a reminder that night 3 at the Beacon begins in ca. one and a half hours. If anything spectacular or out-of-the-ordinary happens, I'll be sure to inform you all. Guest rumors for this evening include Boz Scaggs and Bonnie Bramlett.

Jordistones: That's some cool stuff. Here are a couple of scans from my collection (I need to see if I can dig out the pics, passes and other "memories" such as original setlists, etc.):

Take care and stay tuned for the odd update this evening.

I guess you learn something new every day. Back then most leased autos were luxury vehicles and specialized companies (I.E. Executive Leasing) handled the lion's share.

Tonight's setlist was:

Set 1:

Little Martha
Trouble No More
Leave My Blues at Home
Who's Been Talking
Black Hearted Woman
You Can't Lose What You Never Had
The Sky Is Crying (with Buddy Guy)
You Don't Love Me (with Buddy Guy)
Southbound (Buddy Guy/PageMcConnell/Trey Anastasio)

Set 2
I Know You Rider w/Trey Anastasio & Page McConnell
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed w/Trey Anastasio & Page McConnell
Dreams
Jessica

Encore: Statesboro Blues

That's 43 different songs over a span of 3 nights. Set 2 tonight was fantastic but I think the first set was even better.

Three shows into the run and we already had the following special guests:

Taj Mahal
Levon Helm, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams and Brian Mitchell
Johnny Winter
David Hidalgo & Cesar Rosas From Los Lobos
Buddy Guy
Page McConnell and Trey Anastasio from Phish

I wonder what we can expect for tomorrow . . .

Good night and peace,

E Duane
