OT: J Geils Reunion Show
Posted by: sweetcharmedlife ()

Thanks to Nellcote from Rocks Off for the reports of the J Geils Band reunion show in Boston on Thu night:

Time warp city!
J Geils blasted the House Of Blues with a fury that
most bands will never realize. For a band who has
not played in public since Dec. '99, they never missed
a beat. Simply incredible. Peter Wolf is the consummate
showman, weaving & bobbing, spellbinding dance moves
all night long. Show was 2 hrs, 15 minutes, three two song
encores. Not the order of the show, however, here's what
was played

Hard Drivin Man
Pack, Fair & Square
Homework
Serves You Right To Suffer
Southside Shuffle
Peaches Tree
Sanctuary
Love Itis
Musta Got Lost
Night Time
Aint Nothin But A House Party
Just Can't Wait
Where Did Our Love Go
Looking For A Love
Give It To Me
Shoot Your Shot
Detroit Breakdown
Crusin For A Love
First I Look At The Purse
Whammer Jammer
Start All Over
Love Stinks
Centerfold
Freeze Frame

Due to this being the 1st show @ the HOB, there were some issues regarding seating, who should go where. In other words, my $45 back of the house ticket somehow became a third person from the stage location.

Glad to hear it. I saw one of the '99 shows in 105 degree heat at Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, VA. There were maybe 1,000 people in a place that holds 23,000, but they just about blew the roof off the joint! Maybe this time around, they'll play more appropriate venues.

BTW, who's in the band these days? Last time around, it was all of the originals, except Stephen Jo Bladd. Sim Cain from Rollins Band subbed for him.

I hope this was not a one time get together for this band. I would gladly go for multiple gigs if they got a tour together. Let's hope they go out on the road again. Concerts I am interested in look pretty slim these days. Geils band would be a layup if there ever was one.

What a setlist!!!!!!!!!!! ROPENI, This is 2009 and with the stakes high on a reunion event of this magnitude, most likely the concert was recorded. Hopefully, it was done Pro-shot, whatever that means.

Hard Drivin Man - the opener?? man oh man!!

filstan - maybe the possible video itself would facilitate a tour??

Right on filstan! Wolf's show at FitzGeralds (near Chicago) in 2003 was one fo the best shows I've ever seen...I can just imagine seeing the whole band!

List of songs was not in order as they played. But Hard Drivin Man is a hell of an opener, if they did.....

Any european gigs to look forward to?

Yea, I was there at the Wolf show at Fitzgeralds as well. I went on my own since my wife wasn't feeling well that evening. What a show is right! Absolute knock out.

The video would be a great promo to stir up tour interest. It would be a old fart gig, but who cares? I'm in if they go for it. I think they would get a better gate this time around.

inopeng, are you going to Fitzgeralds Monday evening? C.J Chenier is playing and his band is hot. Should be some good eats and music, plus it starts early.

Filstan - I probably will go because my cousin plays drums in the dixieland band that usually starts the show. Say hello if you can - I'm 6' even, thin, and wear dark glasses with green stems...

The entire original band was there except for drummer Stephen Jo Bladd who was replaced by longtime band friend Marty Richards.

A comment a read was someone wondering how Run DMC got elected to the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame and J. Geils did not.

Who's the second guitarist?

WOW! I'm a big Geils fan. I would've gone to the show but me & the mrs are both laid off. It looks like they added a 2nd guitarist. Facing the stage is looks like JGeils to the Left & Dan Klein on the right in the black, but whose the guy near the keyboards?

I saw a Boston Globe story about the show and it mentioned the 2nd guitarist was Duke Levine. Sure hope they tour!

Well, Detroit Breakdown certainly is... pretty relevant these days!

Man, I lost count as to how many times I saw these guys! Always a great show!

Great foto's and video!

I embarrassed to say that I don't have any J. Geils band albums and I'm not that familiar with there music. Of course I know Centrefold but that's really commercial and I don't think that it does them justice. After listening to some clips on youtube they're like a lost diamond for me, they play some awesome R&R with a great harp. Can anyone recommend me some must have albums of them?
Thanks!

Cheers,
Wuudy

I have seen the JGB in Turin in 1982,
before the Stones Show.
Was fantastic band!

I saw them that same tour but then in a hot and sweaty Kuip in
Rotterdam. First Stones show for me, never saw a better support
act after that before a Stones show.
