April 24: Bridge closed in Chicago, USA
The special T-shirt made up for the evening at the United Center, Chicago last night said Bridge Closed, as it was the final U.S.A. show. Still there is one more show in Toronto, Canada on April 26, before they take one month of rest. The bridge is re-opened in Berlin, Germany on May 22. April 21: Bon Jovi with the Stones in Europe
Bon Jovi may open up for the Rolling Stones some places on the tour in Europe this summer, including Austria. Also, Santana is rumoured for shows like Malaga. Details to follow soon...
April 21: Bremen confirmed, Hong Kong etc. cancelled
The pieces of the 1998 summer tour puzzle is getting together as Bremen Sept. 2 is confirmed, and will go on sale tomorrow. And the dates in the far East including Hong Kong etc. will most probably not happen, due to financial difficulties, see the Tabloid Net report.
April 19: Montreal preparing the Molson Centre for the Stones
Unlike the ice storm weather who took the show in Montreal in January, the city now welcome the Stones with a beautiful, warm and sunny weather. Yesterday the Montreal Canadiens Ice Hockey team made a 3 - 3 draw vs. Buffalo in the same venue, the Centre Molson, to a full house of 21,200 people, as they played Start Me up following the national hymns, and I Can't Get No Satisfaction when Bufallo made a temporary lead with 3 - 2. During the night the ice is gone and the Stones' arena stage is up - now it's on to the Stones for two shows!
April 19: Syracuse showed the Stones in top form
The Rolling Stones arrived back to U.S.A. for the "delayed shows" tour leg on Friday, and amazed all the fans with an great show. In fact, they have been getting better and better ever since Buenos Aires and Brazil. See many great reviews of the Syracuse show.
April 16: Istanbul and Athens shows confirmed
The Stones shows in Istanbul Sept. 13 and Athens Sept. 17 have been confirmed. The 2nd show in Greece in Thessaloniki on Sept 15 is probable, but still not confirmed. These are so far the final shows of the Bridges to Babylon tour, even if the Hague city want to have the last show as a free concert in the city some time in Sept. (5th or 7th have been discussed, but 7th is allocated for Frankfurt). Also, Italy May 30 is now confirmed, finally, after 8 years of waiting, the Stones will be back to Italy - and this time before the world championship in fotball. As for support acts, some are ready, more to come, see the 1998 tour dates pages.
April 12: Rio de Janeiro show broadcasted live on TV
The Stones concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil last night was broadcasted live on TV. Only 30,000 out of 42,000 tickets were sold, due to high ticket prices. They did Ruby Tuesday among others. Tomorrow's show in Sao Paulo is sold out.
April 12: Bob Gruen and Bill German in Syracuse
On Thurday, April 16, at 6pm, Bob Gruen will do a slide show presenting his photo works with the Rolling Stones, including his recent publication Crossfire Hurricane. Also, Bill German, editor of the famous Rolling Stones fanzine Beggars Banquet (now ceased) will take part in this show, sharing his moments with the Stones. The place is Sheraton University Hotel, right on the Syracuse campus, near the Carier Dome.
April 11: Paris gets 2nd show on July 26
Paris, France is getting a 2nd show at Stade de France on July 26, the day after the first show on July 25. Tickets go on sale next Friday April 17. Opening act for both shows will be Jean-Louis Aubert, a french singer.
April 9: Stones song on Hope Floats movie soundtrack
Billboard is reporting the new 20th Century Fox film "Hope Floats" will feature new material from Garth Brooks, the Rolling Stones, Trisha Yearwood and Lyle Lovett. The Stones track is said to be the Jimmy Reed song "Honest I Do". The soundtrack is produced by Don Was. "Hope Floats" stars Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr., and will be released May 29 to theaters across the U.S.
April 9: Ronnie in boat accident
While Mick and Charlie stayed at their hotel Copacabana in Rio, Ronnie and Keith went to the plastic surgeon Ivo Pitanguy's house on the island Angra dos Reis. Ronnie with his wife and son went on a boat trip off the island, and during the trip the engine stroke fire, and they had to evacuate the boat in a hurry. Luckily they were followed by paparazzi boats, and the boat from Jornal Do Brasil picked up Ronnie and his family. See photo etc in Aftonbladet. Keith was not aboard on the boat striking fire, but it seems he twisted his foot somehow. Still, he should be fine for the show on Saturday in Rio. The show in Rio will be broadcasted live on TV.
April 7: The Rolling Stones arrives in Brazil
Following two weeks of stay in Argentina, giving the Buenos Aires fans five great shows (see reviews at the 1998 tour reviews pages), the Rolling Stones flew to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, to perform there on April 11, and in Sao Paulo on April 13. And just to kiss the Stones goodbye, the great Buenos Aires magazine GENTE hit the streets as they left, with a new issue featuring a great close up photo of Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger on the front cover. That's the 3rd week GENTE has some 20+ pages of glossy Stones features and photos, and 2nd week with the Stones on the cover. Also, GENTE is out with a hugh Stones color special, plenty of pages.
April 1: IORR 32 mailed out last week
The new magazine It's Only Rock'n Roll number 32 was mailed out to all subscribers last Friday, and should have arrived by now. Great photos from MSG, The Joint and other Bridges To Babylon shows, plus complete setlists, reviews, rare interviews and news. See how the cover looks like on the IORR 32 web page. When there is time extra, IORR 32 (and 31) will be published on the web too!
April 1: The Stones feeding the paparazzi's in Argentina
The paparazzi photographers have been real busy in Argentina, and the results can be seen in the glamor press, as the Stones are in-depth covered on both covers of Gente and Caras, magazines a la Hola and Hello... They have 20 or so pages of photos each, from the Argentina press conference, from their arrival, from the concert, and from Mick jogging at a trip out to Punta del Este in Uruguay last week. Plus of course paparazzi shots from the hotel, of Keith and Ronnie at a resort place, you name it, the paparazzi's are all over...
April 1: 5th show in Argentina on April 5 on sale now
The 5th show in Argentina has been confirmed, and is now on sale. It will be the 2nd show in Argentina having Bob Dylan as warm-up, as Bob will be there on the 4th as well. Hopefully Bob Dylan will have a better reception by the fans than Meredith Brooks, who had to leave stage early on in her set due to bad behavour of the crowd.
