Quotejbwelda That's too bad, I will miss him. He used to live down the road from a friend of mine in San Anselmo. Used to always yell at neighborhood kids to get the hell off his lawn. jb Did someone say San Anselmo? World class crank but when he's good, he's very good indeed...

Bun E. says circa 1975 he was going back to his hotel room after a gig and heard someone down the hall blasting Stones music he'd never heard before and intrigued he went to the room and discovered a drunken Steve Marriott blaring a tape of Steve playing with The Stones...Bun. E has a Facebook page if you want details you can ask him! From the description of "The Life and Times of St

Takes me right back to college in the late 70's . Always a fun show, occasionally brilliant, occasionally Top 40 lame. Check this later era powerhouse performance- thats how a tight three piece works!

Perennial 70's openng act and underdogs who definitely deserve their spot not the least for pioneering the sound The Eagles took to the bank..Randy Meisner, Jim Messina and Timothy Schmidt all went on to major success...they could play and sing circles around almost everyone but just couldnt write hits.

A couple Christmases back the wife got me the authoritative tome on The Andy Grffith show- a staple since childhood- as told by all the surviving insiders who worked on the show. Turns out Andy Griffith was a fairly ruthless hard ass wife swapping booze hound who was jealous of Don Knotts multiple Emmy awards and wouldnt give him a percentage so Knotts split. Lonesome Rhodes was the more reveal

Rather generic early 70's solo LP tune, but Daltrey absolutely kills. Russ Ballard and Bob Henrit from Argent/Kinks. Live in studio w/backing vocal track.

Taylor always a really polished classy blues master with a little jazz tinge. Wood is not technically a virtuoso of any description but has The Rolling Stones feel in spades- the perfect replacement. No one else comes close. I think overall his best musical moments were with The Faces/early 70's Rod. Neither Taylor or Wood played this kind of stuff.

And two months after - something like that - I got a phone call. And I didn't actually have a phone, I had to go down to my landlady and, 'Michael, would you like to come to an audition for The Rolling Stones?' "I said, 'What?! The Rolling Stones?! Let me... I'll call you back.' I called my brother Rudolf and I said, 'Can you believe that?' 'Ca

Read a snippet in a Roy Buchanan bio where one of his band said Roy was notorious for making up wild and far-fetched stories about himself including the notion he had been approached by The Stones and it never happened. QuoteSighunt This was a long time ago from what I remember, but just going from memory, these are the folks who I read auditioned for the Stones guitarist job: Jeff Beck Ro

As Bob Geldof noted in an interview- Rory Gallagher is not a sideman. Ronnie Wood is a sideman.(An excellent one) The right guy got the job. (I do recall reading way back when in one of the classic Stones chronicles that it was actually Ian Stewart and Glyn Johns pushing to get Rory in.) And I suspect any talk of Marriott was just his pal Keith winding Mick Jagger up. Steve was in fact an exc

From Blabbermouth.net- is the mood souring already? Chris Robinson repeatedly admonished the crowd for speaking too loudly during BROTHERS OF A FEATHER's concert last Friday night (February 21) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The trek, which sees Chris and his brother Rich performing all-acoustic THE BLACK CROWES tunes at intimate venues, serves as a warm-up for this summer's THE B

Live 1970 LP considered by many to be their best - basically creating the template the Eagles refined and took to the bank. Originally done by Richie Furay with Buffalo Springfield on their final LP. Sounds a little like The Dead meets the Burrito Brothers....

Thats exactly right...seriously overqualified and thats not slight to the great rock players in that lineup. Heres Vince on Duane Allman's '57 Gold Top just to show he's not all Chet Atkins style...literally he can do it all, brilliantly.

Not at all sure why he's involved, but strictly as far as guitar picking goes Vince Gill can play circles around just about anyone on the planet- Eagles, Stones, whoever. He actually declined Mark Knopflers offer to join Dire Straits (which is kinda weird to ponder since Knopfler is amazing..) Heres proof...

Its all about the franchise. Just like Lynyrd Skynyrd. If people go to see the show and have a good time, whats the harm? Never a huge fan but Ive gained some appreciation for the original Leadon-Meisner-Frey-Henley line up, basically following the path Poco blazed with their proto-country rock. Seems kinda corporate now. Bernie Leadon and Don Felder were not asked to participate which wou
