Reminds me of the vibe I got off classic Tull ('72-76)- I didnt really like the band but the playing was razor sharp and immaculate, Martin Barre was an awesome guitarist and they were, love 'em or hate 'em, completely original and totally distinct. Too mannered and eccentric to suit me.

Never much of a Yes fan but the quality of the musicianship was extremely high. Steve Howe had very few peers among 70's guitarists, totally original approach.

Doesnt seem possible but he'd be 80 if he was alive today...now recognized as a country rock pioneer, in this clip he's doing Dylan with post-Poco/pre-Eagles Randy Meisner on bass. If you watched Ozzie and Harriet in black and white as a kid , yer gettin' old! video:

Any Don Rich fans on IORR? An unsung American guitar hero if ever there was one. Buck Owens later said that when Don was killed in a motorcycle crash at age 31, he lost his love for making music. Maybe the best vocal/guitar duo this side of Mick and Keith... video:

Totally indifferent to Gary Moore (and for that matter Thin Lizzy) but the guitar freak in me sat up and paid attention when I saw this- tight and rockin'. Apparently he was George Harrison's favorite guitarist- go figure.

Any Chronicle of The Black Sword era fans out there? The late great Huw rocks a serious mullet amd plays the frets off his guitar. Not missing Lemmy or Nik Turner here...

The most influential guitarist of the last 40 years, spawned a generation of imitators- Randy Rhoads may have surpassed given time and on the whole, Michael Schenker was superior- more melodic and song oriented- in this genre. Not my cup of tea, never bought any of it. RIP

Saw Keith and The Winos at Constitution Hall in DC (Soul Asylum opened)- they had just replaced the bass player and coincidentally, the bass was so high up in the PA mix, it was rumbling and vibrating and drowning out almost everything (at least where I was sitting). The guys behind me were arguing at length over who was going to go over to the mixing desk and tell the guy to turn down the bass.

Those "of a certain age" might feel a wee pang...musicians of this caliber are disappearing fast...classic stuff. Lucky to have come up in the 60's and 70's.

Now thats funny..... “I used to get a lot of odd fan mail, but my mum enjoyed replying to it. She'd tell overexcited teenage boys, 'My daughter's too old for you. What you need is a run around the block.'"

Watched those Avengers episodes Saturday afternoons back in the late 60's when they were first shown in the US, couldnt have been more than 9 or 10 but Emma Peel really got my attention. What a woman! Safe travels Diana Rigg and say hello to Patrick Macnee when you get there!

On the other side of the coin- Its Too Late to Stop Now, one of the best live LPs ever and one every music fan should own- Unlike most live rock albums, there was no studio overdubbing allowed by Morrison, which resulted in the exclusion of "Moondance" from the album due to one wrong guitar note. Morrison strictly adhered to his concept of authenticity in presenting the live performa

Thin Lizzy's "Live and Dangerous"- According to producer Tony Visconti, Phil came in to re-do some vocals, which prompted the rest of the band to demand a chance to re-do their parts and by the time the dust settled only the drums were live.

Quotejbwelda That's too bad, I will miss him. He used to live down the road from a friend of mine in San Anselmo. Used to always yell at neighborhood kids to get the hell off his lawn. jb Did someone say San Anselmo? World class crank but when he's good, he's very good indeed...

Perennial 70's openng act and underdogs who definitely deserve their spot not the least for pioneering the sound The Eagles took to the bank..Randy Meisner, Jim Messina and Timothy Schmidt all went on to major success...they could play and sing circles around almost everyone but just couldnt write hits.
