Steppenwolf used the words heavy metal in Born To Be Wild which is where the term came from. I would think the Yardbirds were one of the heavier bands in the mid 60's, especially when Jeff Beck took over from Clapton.

As far as Canadian venues go, Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto is still standing, although it's not used anymore since Air Canada Center opened. The Montreal Forum I believe is still standing, although it's been converted from an arena. Winnipeg Arena was torn down last year I believe since a new arena was built downtown. Agrodome in Vancouver still exists but the Forum was torn down.

It would be great to hear As Tears Go By. Picture Mick and Keith only sitting on stools with Keith strumming an acoustic guitar, similar to Prodigal Son on Gimme Shelter DVD extra. Apart from Ed Sullivan and perhaps a couple other tv shows, I don't think they actually played this song live before. I actually prefer their original version, As Time Goes By.

Never saw Brian use a flying v, although I believe Keith used one at Hyde Park? Do any guitarists play them anymore? I remember KK Downing in Judas Priest uses (used) one and Paul Stanley used to play one.

Sounds like a similar situation to Creedence Clearwater Revisited? I also recall legal hassles with Jefferson Airplane, who then changed their name to Jefferson Starship and then finally Starship. There are actually quite a few bands from the 60's and 70's that reunite and tour with only one or two of the original members and still call themselves the original band name. I think Mike

Drbryant, nice system! It seems that the majority of new SACD releases are in the classical field. I haven't heard any classical SACD's but I'm sure they must sound awesome. You need to get (if you already don't have) Dark Side Of The Moon which was rereleased as a hybrid SACD a couple years back in 5.1 surround sound. That's awesome! If the format is to survive, it&

In response to the original post, how much is a Kroner compared to a US dollar? Have to agree with Eric with his comments regarding Zeppelin. They were the biggest band in the 70's. Saw an interview with Cameron Crowe where he was discussing the movie Almost Famous, which was loosely based on his life as a young journalist touring with Zeppelin in the early 70's. He mentioned how

I read that he was here in the hospital and that Rod Stewart was looking after his medical expenses, although we have universal health care in Canada so I'm not sure how much it could have cost. Perhaps he had a private room in the hospital. In the previous Rod Stewart concerts that I've seen in Vancouver, he has always mentioned the fact that Long John lives here and how he helped

I seriously doubt Mick has even heard of Poison. I'm not a huge fan of the band but I do like Every Rose Has It's Thorn. One of the many LA glam metal bands of the 80's along with Ratt, Warrant, Crue, etc. Saw Whitesnake in 1984 on their Slide It In tour. Had John Sykes (ex Thin Lizzy) on guitar as well as the awesome Cozy Powell on drums. Saw them again in 87 opening for Motl

Have to agree with Skelly on this one. Also, it probably doesn't take much to be a better singer that Dylan. One song that I really like Keith's singing on is We Had It All. I wish the Stones would have released that song.

I like Long John Baldrey introducing the band on Got Live If You Want It (the remastered SACD which contains the longer intro where he names all of the band members and then they kick into Under My Thumb).

I saw DLR in concert a couple years ago. Visually, he looks older (obviously) and he has a receding hair line. However, he can still sing well. Actually, I think he was singing better than the three times I saw him when he was with Van Halen (81,82,84). He actually stuck to singing the songs as opposed to screaming and skipping the lyrics. Apparently Eddie can't get along with anyone.

It's my understanding that alot of their early work was released in mono because it was cheaper and also Andrew Loog didn't know what he was doing although he was the "producer".

As I've mentioned here before, I wish Eddie VH and DLR can put aside their differences so the REAL Van Halen could get back on the road (no offense to Sammy, I like him better as a solo artist).

In response to Jackass's question about are there any acts that do real encores anymore, AC/DC played Ride On after the usual Those About To Rock closer in Europe on their Stiff Upper Lip tour. I believe it was at the stadium show in Paris. I don't think they've played that song since Brian has been the singer and I'm not sure if they played it very often when Bon Scott was

I would equate the question to sports. Whether it's a Gretzky, Jordan, Woods, etc., even if you are one of the best at what you do, you can't be great every night. Some nights things just go your way and other nights, you're missing easy shots. Guitarists will miss a chord, drummers will miss the beat, etc.

Hi Gazza, I remember the quote Mick gave (I probably taped it) and at the time I assumed he was talking about Keith or Ronnie. I do recall seeing/reading interviews by Keith being pissed off with Mick for not wanting to tour when he would have known Charlie couldn't tour anyway. I'm actually amazed that no press knew about Charlie's situation in the 80's.

Nothing was ever written about this in the 80's. The first I knew of Charlie's addictions was his interview on 60 Minutes back in 94. After I saw that, I often wondered if Mick and Keith kind of "hyped" up their feuding back in the 80's just to cover for Charlie, with Mick claiming he didn't want to tour for Dirty Work, when it would have been obvious that Charlie

Also read that Pink Floyd Echoes had a sales increase of over 1000% the day after Live 8! I don't think it was selling huge so the actual numbers it sold may not have been that great. Gilmour also said that he will donate his royalties from the increased sales of Floyd albums to the relief effort and he challenged all other Live 8 bands to do the same! He said the bands shouldn't ben
