"Sure, The Stones competed and came out with "Their Satanic Majesties Request", the original title was supposed to be "Her Majesties Satanic Request". - I thought the original title was "Cosmic Christmas". 'Cosmic Christmas' was only a working title. They almost called it 'Her Satanic Majesty Requests And Requires' after the phrase in

Wow, it would be great! Simon & Garfunkel played it last year so you never know. The sound should be an improvement on 1969 and probably the playing come to think of it. There were rumours even at the time that the crowd numbered as many as 500,000 though there was no reliable method of counting from what I gather. The accepted figure seems to have settled on 250,000 but this isn't ne

I don't think the 1978 tour was much kop though it did have a certain rawness and stripped down punky attitude that was cool but I wouldn't say the '81 tour was a rebirth: messy, clunky performances and poor arrangements + Jagger's ridiculous sportswear. For me '89 was the real rebirth despite Chuck at the helm.

Nick Cave's audience has become a lot broader and almost mainstream in the last few years what with the South Bank Show special and various sunday supplements etc. I think the only reason it went down generally well is that the new album is so strong and varied. I agree that most people go mainly to the Stones to hear the hits which is why if they made it clear on all the ads and pr for the

I agree that the chances of this are almost too small to measure, it was a wish-fulfilment kind of thing. Having said that, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds who formed in 1983 just toured with completely new material (bar encores) which is like the Stones going on the road in the early eighties and playing the whole of Undercover! I don't see why financially it wouldn't work assuming the

Following on from MickJagg 65's thread about warhorses how about rather than either greatest hits or rarities, having exclusively new material from the upcoming album with perhaps a couple of hits for the encores? If they promoted it thoroughly as such then most casual fans would probably stay away. This means the Stones could make it a strictly arena (or arena and club) tour pleasing the h

Another one bites the dust! There goes the chance of a Traffic reunion show. Thanks for the first 2 albums in particular though Jim.

Most of the arguments are complete bollocks though in light of Mick's knighthood the social-climbing aspirations were correct. What a tosser Philip Norman is, coming across as the authentic Stones chronicler though Mick never even granted him an interview. Nick Kent is a cut above and he did love the early Stones but he does peddle some crap here.

Hey Menace, I can beat that: she kissed me on thge mouth after her Dingwalls show in 1978 after which I fell backwards in a mock faint thinking life cannot get any better than this, it's all downhill from now.

'89/'90 with the fantastic 'Continental Drift'building and building in the dark (with searchlights) then stopping and teasing you as nothing happened, then starting again, reaching a thundering crescendo then fiery explosions and the greatest band ever in the history of the world for the first time in 7/8 years, bursting into Start Me Up.

A good thread. They don't all stink, there are some excellent books out there. 1) Stanley Booth - The True Adventures of the Rolling Stones 2) David Dalton - The First Twenty Years 3) Robert Greenfield - A Journey Through America With The Rolling Stones 4) The Rolling Stones Anthology (hard to find 70's book)

There wasn't a Mick OGWT interview in '74! There was one with Richard Williams in '72 (US football shirt) and one with Bob Harris in '73 (Munich-suit).

The press always claimed this was due to what happened at Altamont but considering Hunter was murdered during 'Under My Thumb', not Sympathy', this didn't make a lot of sense.

Yeah, I checked '2Stoned' and Bono co-wrote the song with Larry Williams and Christy is his pseudonym named after his daughter.

You're right there Esky; same goes for Citadel. I reckon the lyrics as printed out by Rockman above are wrong (nothing to do with Rockman but the books that churn these out often seem to have transcribed them phonetically and are full of weird errors). This one may just be in my head but I think the chorus should read: Oh Daddy proud of your planet Oh Mummy proud of your son (not sun)

Brian didn't "teach Mick and Keith the blues." They pretty much had the Stones template in place with Little Boy Blue & the Blue Boys before they even met Brian.

I've never heard Mick say a bad word about Woody (publicly) and I think he truly loves the man. He was the vital catalyst in getting Ron into rehab. Remember how much he contributed to Ron's 1st solo album well before he even joined the Stones. Not to say that he and Keith haven't come close to kicking him out esp. circa '82 when he wouldn't leave the crack pipe alone.

Thanks for setting the record straight John. Jackson Christy, that's it, not Sam Christie! Still I'm fairly sure I didn't dream the whole thing. Have you read the Loog's amazing book? Perhaps he was suggesting Bono actually wrote the song but the others got the credit; I'll have to look it up when I get home. Being a psych fan to the core I will have to check out the solo

Was anybody else shocked to discover in Andrew Oldham's '2Stoned' the true identity of the writer of this classic Out of Our Heads track to be none other than Sonny Bono? The name credited is something like Sam Christie (from memory) who I always pictured as some ageing black r&b guy but apparently this was a pseudonym of the moptop teenybopper. He made good friends with the St
