The picture sleeve looks like one for a proper dvd but I think this is just wishful thinking. There is no suggestion that either Oakland show was filmed in either Nico Zentgraf's site or Felix Aeppli's book. I'm pretty sure the Maysles Bros. didn't film these shows as well as MSG & Altamont. Apparently Bill Gaham made the sounboard recording and he's one of the few pe

Mar. 14: Boston venue rumour for the Stones Boston media are reporting about an application for shows on August 21 and 23 this year at the 36,000 capacity baseball venue Fenway Park. The unconfirmed rumour is this might be for the Stones. See the Boston Herald news. It's obviously too soon to be smug but it's looking like my source was spot on - see below: Tour starts in Bosto

The show was definitely filmed. I was sat 3 feet away from a guy with a dvcam camera on a tripod and there was another unmanned (automatically operated) camera centrally positioned. There must have been others too but they were all I could actually see. Whatever it is that Mick's got, he's still got it: the show was great throughout but as soon as Mick appeared he just stole the show

He played a weird 6 string bass for Plynth which was great.

I think he was at his worst on the 81-82 tour. It just doesn't compare to '69 or '72/'73 or the last tour come to that.

How about a photo of them all sporting exotic (& possibly symbolic) masks or headware, in the fashion of 'No Stone Unturned'so although the band would be present, most of the wrinkles would be invisible for those who are squeamish of such things. Alternatively they could opt for very truthful contrasty b/w close ups of Mick & Keith's fizogs, to show they are proud rather

Hi Gazza, Yeah, a mate and me have got front row of the Grand Circle tickets. I can't wait. I was just looking for the latest details on where you were all meeting up actually.

Apparently Rod has his plane ticket booked that day so he won't be there.

The info I have is that they start the tour in Boston on August 21st or 22nd which makes it extremely unlikely that they will be playing Hyde Park, at least not on the 28th.

Sounds quintessential Keef to me. Great track. According to Martin Elliot (not necessarily reliable) "Highway Child seemed a possibility for release, since the tape was later mastered by Jimmy Miller at the Olympic Studio. It is played in the hard rock vogue and has quite a memorable riff."

I've just heard that the new tour will probably start in Boston on August 21st or 22nd with a pre-tour warm-up club gig in Toronto. I'm afraid I can't reveal the source of this as he might get in trouble for leaking details. He was definitely told this anyway, though I can't say how certain these plans are. This pretty much scotches the Hyde Park on the 28th rumour unfortunate

"But didnt Mick and Marianne date again in the late'90s?? I read that and it sounds like a true story." - I'm 99% sure this is not the case. Where did you hear this LA Forum?

"The aggressions! That used to be their role in rock." - "the greatest posers rock has ever known. No one can live up to their image.....not even them!" Almost polar opposite views here. Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between. I know where LA Forum is coming from when he says they used to be dangerous but apart from Keith lashing out at stage invaders & harbourmast

Hmm at the risk of opening up a political can of worms "the right to own firearms" seems like a pile of redneck crap to me: how about weighing it against the right of innocent people to walk down the street without getting caught up in the crossfire. If you banned them all hundreds of lives would be saved, simple as that.

Ryan Adams at MSG '03 & the Meters at Earls Court in '76 are the best I've seen but the ones I would really have loved to catch were Ike & Tina Turner in '69, Stevie Wonder in '72 & George Thorogood in '82 oh and I believe the Creation supported them once or twice in '66.

Another of my favourite Charlie moments (mythical too?) is after a gig in '64 or '65 backstage where loads of fans were beseiging the boys for autographs and locks of hair etc. One girl approached Charlie who was sitting untroubled on his own and asked him for a souvenir. He looked around, shrugged and offered her a chair. I often wonder if she did struggle home with it or still has it.

It makes you wonder if he hadn't surrounded himself with guns whether he would have done it. If it was a spur of the moment impulse born out of depression then he might have ridden the moment without immediate access to a gun. Just speculation, who knows, perhaps he planned it for ages like Donald Cammell did. Sad though, he was a great writer and a very funny man. I've got a vhs item o

Brixton is a lot better, pretty good pics and sound throughout. Paradiso is fairly crap; the entire thing just fimed off the external screen.

When a drunken Jagger knocked on Charlie's hotel room in Amsterdam and told his "drummer boy" to get his arse downstairs then a few minutes later an immaculately suited Charlie appeared and punched Jagger in the face so hard he slid along a table and almost fell out a window into a canal, saying: "Don't ever call me your drummer again. You're my @#$%& singer."

I prefer acid in a field on a summer's day with a small group of friends but having said that I have been on the bus at several gigs. The 'heaven and hell' drug can often be both within the same gig! I think large crowds in confined spaces aren't necessarily conducive to good trips. I've been close to freaking out on a number of occasions though when it's going well

"one day we ought to start a chess match of sorts pitting Beatles tunes with Stones songs. Wonder who'd win the match of the catalogs????" I spent 3 of my school years doing this with 5 friends (3 of us Stones fans, 3 Beatles). We even devised a point scoring system, up to 10 per track and working out an average score for the whole album. I think we even had to build in an extr

Yes, the 12" mix is one of the best things they did in the eighties. "Too dubby"? I think the problem with the album track is that it's not dubby enough.
