Quotededospegajosos No it is not. Sticky Fingers is a GREAT album. And besides I didnt say I dont like HD, I like it a lot, I just dont think it is a great album, it is good though, kinda like steel wheels. I think the comparison with Steel Wheels is very accurate. Good but not great.

Quotedcba Quoteskytrench Gotta disagree with that, Not Fade Away was an great opener for Voodoo Lounge, It was keith's idea and Mick complained it totally failed at pumping up the audience and putting it in the right mood. In 97 they opened shows with the very fast "Satisfaction" which says a lot. Wow, if Mick really has said that, it goes to show he really sometimes misses

Quotevertigojoe I wonder if Mick really regrets his cheapness in not giving MT any songwriting credits. He drove him away by doing this i believe. Its a bit like a man having an affair with a beautiful young woman(Taylor), being inspired by her, wanting to be with her, but in the end opting to stay with his wife (Richards) despite the fact that the relationship is dead, he sure doesn't love

If a band doesn't know how to play a song of theirs live, they shouldn't play it live. Simple.

Quotededospegajosos Overdubbing with a new performance is one thing, copying and pasting from the studio version is a new level of mediocrity ...and also stupidity It certainly is not very "punk". If that word has any meaning at all, it must be the opposite of something like overdubbing a studio version onto a live recording.

QuoteDoxa Well, just for fun and for art's sake... [...] Keith taking care of the interest of the hardcore fan base, while Mick takes care of the casual fan interest [...] But probably that's why I am so fascinated by them. - Doxa Interesting text. However, I sometimes wonder whether the Stones might get more general success outside their hardcore fanbase if they woul

You're making some interesting points. I might give it another chance. Also, the fact that HD is an album on which all of the three remaining Stones seem to agree about the songs is certainly something to applaud compared to previous albums, on which there were "Mick-songs" (which Keith probably didn't like) and "Keith-songs" (which Mick probably didn't like).

QuoteDandelionPowderman On some songs, yes. Bite My Head Off, Dreamy Skies, Live By The Sword, Driving Me Too Hard, Tell Me Straight, Sweet Sounds Of Heaven and Rolling Stone Blues are pretty standard Stones, imo. Get Close, too. That's 8 out of 12 songs. «Incidentally», those are also the «less» produced tracks as well. I guess this is what I meant when I said it's highly subject

QuoteMadMetaphoricalMax [...] Though I did laugh at CliffReefhards 'Stones trying to imitate Aerosmith' line ... [...] Well, all comparisons are silly of course. But I think I saw his point. And I actually like Aerosmith. At least, I like "Pump". But it's an album that stands out for his melodies, his verse/chorus/bridge like songs. Maybe that's what he meant.

Quotededospegajosos QuoteVoodooLounge13 ...Don't think I've listened to it for 2 months now....... Same here.. can’t stand those lifeless drums.. The drums are fine, but I haven't listened to HD the past months either. If I'd want to listen to pop music, I'd listen to the Beatles or ABBA. I am happy about Keith's version of Waiting For The Man, though. Maybe

I will not repost everything, just the parts I want to comment on. The Stones have made a number of sappy, kitchy songs. Why one likes some of them and doesn't like others is hard to explain. I very much like Indian Girl and Sister Morphine and kind of like Fool To Cry and Sweethearts Together. I dislike Blinded by Love or Blinded by Rainbows or Out Of Tears. And I neither like nor dislike Streets of Love, although I can understand some people loathe i

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotewindmelody Quotebakersfield ... It is great if you enjoy Hackney Diamonds, Bakersfield, and you definitely have a point: Many Stones songs depend on the band's performance: Jagger's voice, the weaving of the guitars, the rhythm section. Yet, to my impression, many songs on Hackney Diamonds sound fresh, but very constructed. An example for that is Angry. A

Let me add that I like the Stones because they were special in the sense that they combined groovy American roots music (blues and soul mainly) with a certain pop-sense, but without loosing their rawness. As exemplified especially at their start, and later from late-60s until mid-70s, with a small revival at the end of the 70s. I recently read an interview with the former Police drummer, Stewart

Quotebakersfield Hackney Diamonds is the stones best album since I’m girls in my opinion. Those of us on this board like the stones just because of the sound they make so we enjoy albums like Emotional Rescue and Undercover though the quality of the songwriting isn’t that great because we like the guitar sound, the way that Micks voice sounds et cetera. Hackney diamonds stands out from these beca

QuoteDoxa Hmm.. the idea is to replace one new, unreleased track from the album with an old, already released tune? Well, if the shit hits "Driving Me Too Hard", well, in that case I would pick up "Tumbling Dice" to tell a slightly different story after the intro... Well, maybe one could do the same for the others. Let's replace "Angry" with "Start M

QuoteSomeGuy I wouldn't want to spoil the fun but to call that guitar bit of Get Close a riff seems a bit far fetched to me. I completely agree with you. Which is why comparisons with Slave really bug me. And I am not fond of that sax solo either: too polished, reminding me of those fake jazz bands of the (19)80s (Matt Bianco and stuff like that).

Quoteflilflam Suppose Andrew Watts had asked you to choose the least enjoyable track on HD, which would be deleted, and then recommend as a substitute, another Stones song. I like all of the HD tracks but would state that Driving Me Too Hard should go. [...] Throw out "Get Close". Put in "Keep it Cool" or "Criss Cross"

Power chords, chords, straight A-cord on the first beat, it all comes down to the classic pop idea where the drums play the beat, the guitars and pianos play the harmonies (chords) and the vocals sing the melodies. In that field, the Beatles will always be the best. What made the Stones special was, in one word: rhythm. None of their classic big hits excel in melody. Not Satisfaction, not Hon

In general I am not very fond of people talking and talking on and on, but this guy seems a nice guy and somehow I like how he talks. I don't agree with everything he says (for some reason he likes Get Close), but he makes good points, without being nasty but with some sincerity. I apologize if this has been posted before: video:

Quotedrewmaster Drew He talks too much, so I had to skip some of it. He has a point in saying that it's a pop-album which lacks the classic Stones groove, but - like most people on YouTube - he thinks his own voice is more interesting than it is. He could try to like the album for what it is, but he chooses not to. Which is fair enough. I like his hatred for Close To Me.

QuoteSomeGuy QuoteMartinB QuoteSomeGuy I sort of have a natural habit to want to 'see' through the obvious sound aspects of a record and immediately estimate what I think about the songs as compositions and the performance. Therefore, I was aware of the Watt production but it was not in any way a hindrance to enjoy the album. What I'm thinking right now is, is the Watt approach
