Quotekeefriffhards It's not biased, the album really is that bad, it's incredibly limited and in 10 years time Dirty Work will be seen as a better album. I've just played Crosseyed Heart, a far deeper superior album on every level. Pleased you guys love it though, if it makes the old forget their young it can't be all bad, unfortunately for me I'm over the mid/ lat

Quotemaumau ... So I understand people noticing the differences, but have they not done this regularly in their past? What did you think the first time you heard the drumming of Undercover, the sound of Heaven on Tattoo You or Hey Negrita and anyone here I'm sure can come up with other examples on the same line ... I don't think Heaven, Hey Negrita or even Undercover were "mai

Quotepowerage78 Hackney Diamonds» des Rolling Stones : rock en toc. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ron Wood release a new album featuring a host of prestigious guests, causing quite a stir. There's plenty of noise. For the songs, we'll take a rain check. Ouch!

If you want to listen to a good entertaining pop album, this is a good album. Better than some of their others of the past couple of decades. Most songs have good, strong melodies, the production is fresh and sharp, Mick sings well, the guitars have some cool licks. It's pop, rather mainstream, but with some noticeable blues, soul and obvious country influences, but rather in the way one can

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 I'm sitting here, drowsing, doing one of my favorite things, i.e. thinking about the Stones. And I thought about 'Dirty Work'. I guess we can say that it is widely considered one of their worst albums. But then I wondered how I would see it if this had been their first album. If a band appeared today, with this album. I think I would like it a whole lo

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotepadre69 Is it Keith again on bass? The lead guitar does not sound like Keith, it’s more like Ronnie or Waddy. Keith left, Ronnie right. They both play lead/rhythm. Mick adds to the power chords towards the end and in the coda. Great song. (I have only heard the long version, I am sure it's better than the shorter one) But how can you hear which guitar is Kei

It's always the same with the "anti-woke" crowd. They don't have a problem with Wenner excluding women or people of color. They don't have a problem with him making nasty comments about them. You might say that Wenner himself is guilty of cancelling a considerable amount of artists. But you won't hear them about that. But when some people protest this. When people

This is all getting slightly ridiculous. Between comparing "Angry" with "Start Me Up" or "Tumling Dice", to theories about the profound philosophical meaning of the lyrics and calling the second-hand car salesman trick of putting a girl in a bikini to sell a product, "rock n roll", a "finger up to establishment" (car salesmen of all times must

QuoteMonkeyMan2000 I wonder whose idea it was to put overdrive on Keith's bass. This, I think, is what gives the bassline and also the whole instrumental a lot of character past the obvious Stones by the numbers riff. With my band in the studio, we sometimes use overdrive on the bass part to hide some inaccuracies, so that less editing needs to be done and it can sound intededly rough and ra

Quotebobo QuoteBFR I can’t believe how many people are scandalized [...] [...]They are a joke. The real joke is that some people think others are scandalized by the video. It's like the drunk granddad telling a naughty story during christmas diner, ("nudge nudge, wink wink"). Nobody is scandalized. It's just boring, sad and tacky. I would have loved a scandalizing video. Ro

Quotemaumau I was refreshed too hearing Mick speak like that about his songwriting and the band output. I wonder, though, if there is on earth an artist that would openly confess in a PR event to write trying to guess what the majority of the audience might like The big question for me about Angry is: where is the "unmapped territory" that Mick is willing so bad to adventure in t

QuoteMonkeyMan2000 Hey hey, let's keep it respectful here! We're all adults and know that nothing good ever comes from accusations like these. I personally don't buy into this media-manufactured wokeness and cancel culture debate and you'd have to pay me to take part in such over-simplification. Furthermore, you know that politics aren't allowed on here. QuoteMonk

Quotefrankotero I need to add this. What are people thinking about their past sex, drugs and rock and roll credo? They built their empire on that. I guess it's all white washed now. I personally want to thank The Stones or whoever is involved with keeping it a bit raunchy and edgy. That's Rock And Roll!!! Maybe you guys need to switch over to some other genre that's more safe and l

QuoteMathijs The stereo UK version remains in my top 3 of albums. All tracks except for Going Home are fabulous. Mathijs Going Home is cute, but indeed the weakest song on Aftermath. The rest (of the UK album) I all find good to great. It's their first album of that period where they tried to be a pop band (albeit still with clear blues influences) and the only one of those 3 that act

Quotelem motlow QuoteBjorn Half the beauty of Thief in the night is enough? This album will be a killer, then - because random outtake on youtube is twice as good as Thief in the night. I’m a huge Keith fan, have been for decades.you look at the songs he did on the Stones albums. You got the silver, happy, coming down again, before they make me run. Just top notch stuff, but for the life of

I'm not a big fan of this song. The studio version is alright, although certainly not the best song on Beggar's Banquet. The lyrics are clever, but the "riff" is hardly a riff, it's just to full, too bombastic, not very groovy. Like a big wall of chords. Live, it's worse. I am glad it's the last song on Get Yer YaYa's out, so I normally stop the CD when

I like the video. In all its simplicity it underlines the darkness and sadness of the song. I like how the drummer gets the focus at the right moments. Some of the lyrics in the subtitles seem to be wrong though.

Quotedeardoctor I know this track gots a lot of hate. But indeed I love this remix: brilliant guitar weaving Winning Ugly is potentially a very good song, also the Dirty Work version, but it gets ruined by the 80s sound and production. One day, a grungy, swampy, funky rock and roll band will make the perfect cover version of that song.

The 80s were a terrible decade. It was the time of Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet and a whole lot of other terrible nonsense bands. Even the Stones fell victim to the 80s sound on Dirty Work. One Hit is a great song but it would have sounded a lot better with a different production (especially the drums and bass).
