43 years have gone. B-side if one of the best ever, IMO.

The album had what it takes: A big hit and two songs you can play live. A bit ballad overloaded though. Perhaps because it was made out of leftovers? Sound production the best ever. Never matched again.

Not at all
Start Me Up didn't top the US charts (number 2).
Harlem Shuffle didn't top the US charts either, of course (number 5).
Mixed Emotion also peaked at number 5 in the US.
All of those were hits, though, and the Stones have topped other charts up until today, actually.
So, not their last hit.

For the general public attending shows in 2024, SMU is the latest and most eagerly awaited hit.

Short term charts aside; SMU is their last big hit in the longer perspective. Still played at sports arenas after 43 years. Still in every setlist on tour.
The only post 81 song that may compete with it is YGMRN from 1994. It's number 16 on the all time setlist - SMU in number 6.

Their last truely great album. The only weaker song (Hang Fire) doesn't take away the overall brilliance of it.
The guy who dug up all the out-takes that ended up on the album deserves a medal (or, rather, at least 50% of the copyrights).

Yes, it's also the last release constantly played on classic rock radio.
