I get the "Stones by numbers" criticism aimed at many modern era songs... ... I've used the term myself on not a few occasions... ...but since when does playing in your own distinctive style become "mimicking ? That "five strings, three fingers and one @#$%&" is a bit like the Blues. It's amazing how many different little twists and

It would be very interesting, yes. ..but I suspect some of her obvious success is in knowing how to keep her head down and stay away from a lot of exposure.

You can make all these old records more "Hi-Fi" .. ...but better ? Very rarely...and the impact of the music is often the worse for it.

As I hinted at earlier. Time is perhaps giving a bit more perspective. Leaving any conscious analysis to one side...I simply feel that I'm developing a lasting affection and "relationship" with this album that didn't happen for example with VL or ABB .

You could argue that some of the very best Stones recordings are those where you can't hear all of the instruments clearly all of the time. It's the the layering and weaving of the individual tracks coming together for an effect far greater than the sum of the parts.

Quotededospegajosos ... I agree with anynone who says this is a good album, and I also agree with anyone who says it is their worst album. Never happened to me before with any other stones album I think all the months and years of anticipation maybe messed with our heads when it finally appeared

Quoteliddas ...True what you say about them being strongly influenced by Stones, Faces etc, but I think that in retrospect, they are way way more original than derivative. C Not arguing with that at all...but I think it was perhaps the more derivative side of them I liked best

QuoteNashvilleBlues QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteSpud I'll stick with their first two albums I think. I haven't been too enamoured of anything they've done since...either collectively or individually. You better check out Before The Frost. Yes! I'll give that a go then.

Opinions and tastes, as always, are polarised ... ...with some folks dismissing the album out of hand whilst others have hyped it up beyond all reason . Some of us I think have also over-thought and analysed it. All I can say is that I've probably gotten to know and enjoy listening to this album more than any other since TY. As time lends a bit of perspective, rather than tirin

This stuff is so unpredictable. Sometimes, with engineers in tune with the spirit of the music, the result can be a wonderful enhancement. Other times... the spirit and energy of a performance can disappear down the plug hole like the proverbial baby with the bath water. So should ABKCO do this ? I'll let you know after they've done it .

Leaving aside some of the lyrics, which are the aspect that turns some folks off... ...these song are often great examples of how they can turn their hands to convincing deliveries in many genres of music, one of their greatest Pidgeon hole defying strengths.

QuoteGasLightStreet UMG's handling of the Stones' LPs on CD has been criminal - it's not the format's fault. QuoteDoxa No, it's not. But the format is guilty for many other things. I will not miss it when it with those stupid plastic boxes is finally - and rightly - dead and gone. - Doxa CD was never a good enough medium to replace vinyl ...but it can sound pr

I'll make just one more comment. If music had always sounded like most of the recordings we make of it today...it might never have caught on at all. It's like watching an epic movie remade in CGI or looking at a pixelated Van Gogh .

QuoteTravelinMan ...Let Jagger sing those songs and Charlie drum on them. A song is a song, I think you might be thinking about your preferred performance. Dylan wrote Watchtower, but it took Hendrix to make it a masterpiece. Ask FM radio A very good point. For some folks its the sound of a band that we love above all else. That's certainly the case for me with the Stones . I just lov

QuoteGasLightStreet QuoteSpud Well, they couldn't cut it too loud because its quite a long run time for a single LP...so it could in part be a happy accident. [...but I'd like to think otherwise. ] Vinyl can't be brickwalled! No, but it can be mastered from a source that's already compressed to hell so that any natural dynamics cannot be recovered. Very interesting thoughts above about the LIB to Exile period. Whilst much of the material was conceived with a great deal of overlap in time...the very individual characters and vibes of the three albums are defined by the times and places where the final recording and production were completed. It would be fascinating to hear, for example, how the songs on LIB or SF would have sounded if
