That's where the technology has changed to require a different mind set for stage design. 25 and 30 years ago the screen technology wasn't so good and certainly wasn't up to being the main focus of the stage. So to make a real statement you needed a lot of fancy architecture. The potential size and the brightness we have in today's screens totally redefines the para

Yep ..I remember buying a phase pedal around 1978 . They were the big thing for a while...then more extreme sounding flangers and the like came to prominence. I could never take to those...I probably lacked the vision and imagination.

Hilarious really that we should invent FX pedals to mimic the effect of somebody sticking their thumb on top of a tape deck capstan roller...or the sound of an echoplex with serious speed stability issues. ...and god knows what Leo Fender must have sai when first told that folks actually wanted his amps to distort

QuoteDoxa ... Spot on Gas. It stands alone on its own merits. The most common argument is that it's not as good as so and so. Why do people feel the need to compare all the time? Do people really want the band to regurgitate the classic Stones' sound from the 70s? I certainly don't. That was then but this is now. It's a great album. Yeah, when I listen to such gems like OUT

Yes...not a phaser...but there's something else going on behind that more obvious tremolo. Maybe a Leslie derived thing ?

It's all just symptomatic of who MT is. As a musician, and probably as a person, he's the type who needs a framework provided by somebody or something else in order to give of his best. He's never been best equipped to "plough his own furrow".

QuoteDoxa ... and I cannot demand my beloved Rolling Stones to offer me goods like they used to. But still they give me something like no one else does... - Doxa And that I think also sums it up for me, and doubtless for many other folks around here.

Fingerprint File is one of two "wildcards" that I'd be interested to hear them play today. The other is Torn n Frayed . I think each could work in its own way on today's stage.

Could certainly be interesting... there are precedents ...didn't he once play bass on SFTD with EC on guitar ? ...but Keith might then have to play his instrument for a whole song !

I was pleasantly surprised by the sound of HD . In the context of today's typically over loud and over compressed offerings..it sounds pretty good.

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 QuoteSpud We all have different tastes and values when it comes to sound quality...and, obviously, different playback systems... But some folks I think equate "good" sound with a big impressive "in yer face" and overtly HiFi presentation ...which isn't always what you want from a recording. True. What you said earlier is very much the wa

The fewer changes made, the fewer changes to remember for band & crew alike. Sad though it is for we lunatics, they aren't thinking about the audience members who attended the last show ...let alone the last ten.

When we start getting this silly... ...we might conclude that this specific argument has rather exhausted itself The wider debate about whether the often ramshackle sound of the Rolling Stones should be committed to record warts and all is one that has raged for a generation. We're all right, wrong ...right, left... and she's gone

QuoteElmo Lewis I know absolutely nothing of the technical aspects, I just know the album sounds muffled (for lack of a better word). Maybe dull. I love most of the songs on here, but the production leaves something to be desired. Ditto Ronnie's Gimme Some Neck. Glimmers first time out? Interesting . the only version of Gimme Some Neck I've ever had is my original day of re

QuoteDoxa ... Maybe it is a new low - if we forget for the sake of the argument the old GOT LIVE tracks - but I think it is more a case of semantics at this stage. Like Dylan put it, "I used to care, but things have changed"... - Doxa You were the right the first time . .. "..laziness or pragmatic reasoning." I suspect the decision to release the Racket show was prett

QuoteDandelionPowderman When we're discussing the live album, it's kinda relevant if they use tracks from the studio album to touch it up, no? It certainly is relevant. But, that said, I think some folks get too hung up about it. If something's not right in a live performance, it's gone in that instant... ...but you don't necessarily want to hear it over a

I always thought B&B sounded almost too clear & transparent for a Stones album. They need a bit of dirt and a bit of murky mystery in the mix.

QuoteSomeGuy For me IORR is a top album alright. It's got more raw and raunchy songs on it than its immediate, softer predecessors in that it has the guitars turned up more loudly than before, Jagger singing more abrasive than usually (not always a good thing though here it works), the drums are heavier. ... And that's exactly what the bland and listless EQ and mastering engineered ou

Quotedownagain I would suggest choosing the guitar you're most interested in learning to play. Motivation is key. Wise words. For all but the most outrageously talented, learning guitar is difficult at first. Many give up before they've really got going. Whatever your talent level...it's all about how much you want to do it. What I would say. and whatev
