Yep , And subsequently for me an introduction to Country, Soul, Reggae .. All genres that the teenage Spud would never have investigated were it not for the Stones. How much great music would I have missed out on! For that , I've always thanked them...and can forgive them a lot.

Quotekovach First show is 6+ weeks out so there's time. Somebody in another thread said Daryl is free after the 24th so that's the speculated time table. That seems to be the consensus understanding at this time.

Let's just stop talking... ...put the record back on...and start dancin' [ Half the trouble around here is due to some folks liking just certain elements of what this band is or what they think it should be. When asked about having been a Blues band Mick said himself that the Stones are "..an everything band". ..and part of their greatness is that, most

Let Me Down Slow from ABB was a great "poppy" type number too. Very underated song for my money.

Just what my granny used to say ...if you can't think of anything nice to say...keep yer gob shut. That said, there's a huge difference between a sensible critical discussion and the repeated spouting of the same opinions and arguments.

Maybe I should check out "Licked in NYC" ... That one seems to have flown under my radar.

Some folks might call it unprofessional and disrespectful to their audience. Others might just say "..that's Keith & Ronnie for you...very naughty boys, can't take 'em anywhere !" I suppose I fall broadly into the latter cohort

Not sure it was their ability to tolerate substances that was altogether the issue. Just as much down to them overdoing it, safe in the knowledge that in the modern show format they could get away with it .

They used to act like a pair of big kids for much of the time ...each evidently a bad influence on the other. It didn't really abate much until Keith's bump on the head caused him to modify his lifestyle somewhat.

Throughout the Licks tours, both Keith & Ronnie were often guilty of being more interested in throwing shapes than playing the guitar. That said, the club & theatre shows usually saw them better focussed, with better shows as a result. ...and I'm off to pick up my reserved vinyl copy of the Wiltern from HMV tomorrow ... fingers crossed it's well mastered and pressed

Apples and oranges really. With Keith on his own, you know pretty much what you're going to get. Some folks are going to love it almost by genetics whilst others never really will. With the Stones, you might get anything and everything...so there's much more scope for a genuinely interesting discussion.

QuoteTravelinMan QuoteMathijs The only of his playing that I don't like very much is where he is required to play mainly rhythm guitar. I find him annoying on HTW, his rhythm feel for StarF is awkward, his approach for JJF goes against the drive of Keith and Charlie and drags the song down a bit. I like his lead on RTJ, but his rhythm approach is a strange kind of jazz improv which just does

Quotexke38 Cool- I also hear some JJ Cale in there. Yeah, I get that. Another great exponent of the chugging groove and elastic timing. I also get LeonidP's craving for a Winos cover album...now that's an idea

As Keith frequently says, it's all about the Roll. And that's not something you can easily explain to folks who don't get it.

I get the "Stones by numbers" criticism aimed at many modern era songs... ... I've used the term myself on not a few occasions... ...but since when does playing in your own distinctive style become "mimicking ? That "five strings, three fingers and one @#$%&" is a bit like the Blues. It's amazing how many different little twists and

You can make all these old records more "Hi-Fi" .. ...but better ? Very rarely...and the impact of the music is often the worse for it.

As I hinted at earlier. Time is perhaps giving a bit more perspective. Leaving any conscious analysis to one side...I simply feel that I'm developing a lasting affection and "relationship" with this album that didn't happen for example with VL or ABB .

You could argue that some of the very best Stones recordings are those where you can't hear all of the instruments clearly all of the time. It's the the layering and weaving of the individual tracks coming together for an effect far greater than the sum of the parts.

Quotededospegajosos ... I agree with anynone who says this is a good album, and I also agree with anyone who says it is their worst album. Never happened to me before with any other stones album I think all the months and years of anticipation maybe messed with our heads when it finally appeared
