Yep, Rarities was actually released on Starbucks' Hear Music imprint (under license from Virgin Records). I dunno who was actually responsible for the erratic choice of the material and the lousy sleevenotes, but in case it was Hear Music, it is not a good sign for the things to come when they sign up full-time with this Starbucks label.

"This one has performances from both the Stones and EC" ...would be good to know what these performances actually are! Released stuff? Unreleased stuff? Live recordings? Songs specifically recorded for this program? In the last case the price could raise quite high...

Yes, they can do it! Deep down inside, even the seemingly most uncritical Stones admirers hope that the Stones will do something different sooner or later, something unexpected, something refreshing. And when I speak with them, it is unbelievable how often just 'casual' Stones fans mention that they are bored with the Stones doing basically the same over and over again since many years

Just a thought....maybe Mick is cutting demos for a future Stones album? Let's face it, many songs from ABB sounded like Mick had a major hand in the songwriting process, Streets Of Love even sounds like a Jagger solo outtake... But apart from this wishful thinking, I must admit that although Goddess appears to be a weaker album than Wandering Spirit, it is much more experimental than ABB

If you are seriously into Rock'n'Roll, John Fogerty is as worth to go as the Stones. Honestly.

My major complaint about Licks in general is they way the Stones were mixed, and this goes for both guitars: Too often they were too low in the mix - and they keyboards too high at the same time. ABB got this right, louder guitars, lower keyboards and, last but not least, ABB saw the return of GUITAR DISTORTION. So Licks with ABB sound mix would have been perfect. Apart from that, I'd lik

People are obviously quite demanding when it comes to Mick and Keith and what they should do or shouldn't do.... ...imagine you are Mick...or Keith - would you feel the need to frequently talk about happenings more than three decades ago? ...or if it is a bit too tough for some to imagine being Mick or Keith...just in case you treated a fellow pupil, student or colleague - let's

Well my first Stones show was Hyde Park in 1969, so you may guess how long I have been a Stones fan. I instantly liked each and every album they released. Looking back, I must admit that their "recent" stuff (....post Tattoo You...!) pales a bit in comparison to the stuff until and including Tattoo You. But I guess there is no objective truth. If you are a younger fan and grew up with t

Great post, Doxa. I believe this "Brian Jones was not able to write songs" talk is a reaction to the "Brian Jones was able to write songs" talk. Some believe he could, and others doubt it. Noone doubts that Bob Dylan, Lennon-McCartney or Jagger-Richards were able to write songs. Why? Because the evidence is out there for everyone to hear. And that's not the case with B

The whole discussion if Brian wrote songs or not is a bit...uh...theoretical. As such and at this point in time it is a matter of believing or not believing. Fact is that nobody taking part in this discussion has actually heard at least a short clip of those fabled demos. In all these years as a Stones fan, I heard a lot of stories about fabled recordings; app. twenty years ago someone claimed an
