I think Bruce made 4 or 5 real good albums out of the chute, but since Born in the USA he's found it tough to match his previous high standards. This has happened to the Stones, David Bowie, Van Morrison, Lou Reed and a lot of people. All of these performers still put out very credible and entertaining music, it's just that there will never again be that great blast of creativity and

Maybe the Stones' worst. Replacing Charlie Watts with a drum machine is simply unforgiveable. Too Much Blood sounds like a joke track, and the rewrite of Soul Survivor is almost embarassing. She Was Hot is the lone good track. Nice solo there Keith (I think). Fortunately redeemed by the later brilliance of Dirty Work.... Karl

The new one will grow on you, I think. Good disc. I noticed that the previously-announced Marianne show in San Francisco has been cancelled. Seveeral of her European dates a couple of months ago were also cancelled. Health problems? Karl

PS: I saw a TV show on American dialects. They claimed that the major networks try to teach their anchors "Great Lakes" English. It's supposed to be the most dialect-free English (whatever that means). So feel good about yourself, you're perfectly normal! Karl

Marcia, Saw the Licks show too. Jesus, was it cold that night! I'm impressed by your "Ben Connection"! Email me at ksie@verizon.net with your address, I'll send you the video and a boot of the show. The vid is pretty good (is VHS Ok?) although it's single camera=amateur shot. The boot i

Yeah, I lived in the Burgh about 8 years. Shopped at Giant Iggle! Saw many shows at the Decade - what a bar! I saw the Ramones there in 1980 and drank about 12 Rocks while singing in Joey's face. Caught the Houserockers there a couple of times. Also saw the Strokes at Nick's! Oh man, I miss the South Side! Saw No Security in 99 at the "Igloo". I was sitting about thr

Tomek: If I have offended you in some way, I sincerely apologize. The loss of any person's life is a tragedy, and should be respected. I meant no disrespect by any post I made. That said, as a Wesleyan (Methodist), I have long been unable to understand the deification of a human being in a religeous context. In the words of Tammy Wynette, John Paul was "just a man". God B

VL is the Stones second longest disc (after Exile, it's roughly 60 minutes long) and IMO could have been an exceptional release had it been appropriately trimmed. So...you're the producer, or whatever, you're in charge. What tracks would you remove, making Voodoo a 45 minute disc? Basically, you've got to remove three tracks. My choices: Suck on the Jugular: Faux James

"And didn't the Pope do an appearance in Toronto some time before the Stones, at the same or a similar site, and to a large or larger crowd?" Yes, but the Pope always plays larger venues. Also, he usually tours behind new material. But, if you consider ticket prices, the Stones usually gross more. :-)

Agree about the live versions. I love the Memphis 78 Whip, Hampton 81, and even the Live Licks-MSG version is passable. On SG though, I just think Lies is a much hotter tune. To each his own! Karl

"it could be the weakest song on the album" Seems to be the opinion of several people here. What about When the Whip Comes Down? Is it not imitation punk? Is it better than Lies? I'm just curious. Karl

I've posted on this before, but it bears repeating: Dylan provides a perfect example for the Stones: 1. Charges reasonable ticket prices. I paid $45US last summer to see Willie Nelson, Hot Club of Cowtown (good swing band) and The Bob. I was about 15 feet from the stage. This theater tour he is doing now is a little pricier, but it looks to me like top ticket is about $125US 2. W
