If you are buying new then the Pro-Ject series of turntables are excellent value. I have a Pro-Ject Genie III and am very happy with it. Innovative design as well. One option you could try if you work in an orgaisation such as a University or large company is to send out an all staff email asking if anyone has a quality turntable for sale. I really like the opener in Vancouver. It's a bit ragged at times but they do cover some interesting Exile tracks such as Ventilator Blues which would later be dropped. This is why I prefer the LP format to CD. It takes a bit of effort to get the vinyl out , give it a wipe, cue it on the turntable. Then you can sit down, relax , look at the sleeve and listen to the LP all the way through. You even get a bit of exercise getting up to change the record over to side 2.
