Wandering Spirit is by far Micks best solo effort. Anyway his others aren’t bad at all. I especially like Primitive Cool. Mainly because of pretty strong songwriting and musicianship.

QuoteNikkei "I desperately wanted to have a live recording of this band, because at that time I didn’t know if we’d get together again or what would happen." Uhm, oookay? I thought he recently said that for a long time, they had no idea that the recording even existed The recording was first officialy released in 1991. A couple of years could be defined as «a long time».

QuoteBig Al Quoteaudun-eg You can see here that he plays two strings tuned so that he easily can play the boogie figure without having to stretch his fingers. I seem to remember Wyman himself stating in an interview that he couldn't really play the guitar other than some strumming in some open tunings. That surprises me, as I've always been under the impression that most bassists

Start Me Up from a snippet on the national news broadcast from Oslo in 1990 got me hooked on the Stones, so naturally I still love the live versions during Steel Wheels and Urban Jungle tours. It didn't take long for me to appreciate the studio recording either. It's still one of my favorite tunes by any band!

One more: Ruby Tuesday: Good picture quality and a good sound. Clear, crisp guitars, Bill's distinctive bass and Jagger's voice is still intact. And the girls are hotter than hell. Keith’s guitar sound on is way too saturated, as it is on the bootlegs, but what comes in, gets out. Besides that, I think the overall sound of this is pretty good.

QuoteDandelionPowderman It's not the same (the opening riff). It might be standard tuning, too. It's not the regular sus. You're right. Been trying to figure it out on the guitar here. I think it's open G though. Instead of doing the G - G/C with the regular I-IV figure I do the G and then bar the C at 5th fret, but letting the bass G ring and adding the G to the high

QuoteGasLightStreet Keith hammering fourths is classic, of course, but One More Shot - nice chime and clang - is just How I Wish slowed way down in the vein of Street Fighting Man, Highwire and You Shook Me All Night Long. What's in Criss Cross is just the usual fourth riffing that is, of course, classic Keith. And it works! My point beeing that he did it on One More Shot, and if you t

Didn't catch that one either - just because it's a major followed by a sus4? It's still *very* unlike One More Shot Just another key, and Keith doing the i I - IV i

What you ask for is a better mix??? I`m afraid that doesn`t exist. Apart from the mix (or just the available equipment it was recrded with) it is what it is. Surely Don Was or Bob Clairmountain could do some ”triggerthings” to the drums or something, but the album wasn`t that popular. Still some great tunes, though, but it would have been far better with a decent soundmix. I think Charlie plays g

Why doesn`t Criss Cross have it`s own thread? Criss Cross I want to hear again and again. Ghost Town - not, although I think it`s an ok tune.

I have to say that Criss Cross leaped straight into my ears and heart. The song drives forward like little else, thanks to Charlie and Keith (and Mick T on bass?) clearly beeing on top form! Sleazy vocals and lyrics from Jagger as only he could do it in the early seventies. In comparison, Ghost Town didn't excite me at all.

Maybe the overall sound is the explanation. The video from LA seems to be a monitormix or something, and poor quality, while the Atlantic city is the main mix.

QuoteLynd8 I like CH very much, but some of the songs don't feel 100% finished and some of the lyrics a bit weak. Great album but I definitely like that last 3 RS records better and if you include Blue and Lonesome I'd say their last 4 were better. Agree. There are a couple of magnificent tunes on Crosseyed Heart, but there are also some unfinished jams that don’t give me anything. Ver

Yeah, a real shame they actually started to take their music seriously, but I agree on the sound on the album. Way too polished and thin. The musicianship however, is excellent. (A considerable amount of overdubs, I know.) The Tokyo Dome release is much better soundwise.

I wish Keith didn`t release Sleep Tonight with Ron`s drumtrack. Let´s face it. He ain`t no drummer... It is a beautiful tune, but I just can`t see past those horrible unsteady drums.

Quotedeardoctor QuoteMelBelli Wondering if Charlie’s drums were quantized? Also not in love with how the kit sounds overall — especially the lack of pop in his snare. But that seems to be a deliberate choice; rather than a big, roomy sound, they wanted a quieter, more chamber-like drum track. Really digging Mick’s phrasing and melody. That E note he hits when he sings “life was so beautiful

Quotedoitywoik If it wasn't in tune, tuning it may have helped ... Hard to believe that a Gibson built in the 60s was built so badly it wouldn't stay in tune, especially one without a tremolo system. It was a very hot and humid day. The guitar not staying in tune has nothing to do with how well it was made.
