How is Start Me Up "recycled"?

I mean it’s the usual (famous) 2-chord change in open G

Start Me Up from a snippet on the national news broadcast from Oslo in 1990 got me hooked on the Stones, so naturally I still love the live versions during Steel Wheels and Urban Jungle tours. It didn't take long for me to appreciate the studio recording either. It's still one of my favorite tunes by any band!

I'm having a hard time figuring out how it's "the usual 2-chord change in open G".

SMU has more than two chords but I think I get what you mean. What else is there? Dance Little Sister? That has a bridge. Can't think of anything else.

I mean Keith's famous I-IV chord change in open G...

There are loads of songs in open G where Keith hits the fourth - Brown Sugar, Rip This Joint, Tumbling Dice, Happy, All Down The Line, Soul Survivor, If You Can't Rock Me, Luxury, Dance Little Sister, Lies, Before They Make Me Run - that's not a lot of songs compared to the amount of songs in standard tuning.

It's not "recycled", it's just what he does. "Recycled" would be the Chuck Berry lick in A LOT of songs, which, of all things, there's not much of.

Of the reissues... Criss Cross is in open G. Is that it? LOL I haven't paid much attention.

Listened to it just yesterday in the car, off the Virgin Tattoo You edition. Bill's bass work is amazing, and integral to the song. His work on the studio version of Long Black Limousine is pedestrian. By the time they got to playing it live he found what he should have played on the record.

I remember the first time I heard Start Me Up it sounded like a bunch of different parts. As with many a Stones song, it took repeated listening to understand it's true genius.

Not the main riff.

It's a matter of opinion, I respectfully submit
