Out Of Our Heads vs. Beatles For Sale For the first time I'd say the Stones have the better album here. Out Of Our Heads wins this round.

The Rolling Stones, Now! and A Hard Day's Night This is the first time where the Stones make a ton of progress in catching up to the overall quality of The Beatles' albums. Still, going with A Hard Day's Night as the overall better album.

To those saying it should be a US-US or UK-UK comparing, by all means compare their releases however you like. I only picked the Stones' US albums & the Beatles' UK albums b/c those are the most well-known/popular releases overall. If you feel the UK albums are the ones to compare, go for it. If you feel the US albums are the ones to compare, go for it.

Just thought I'd start a friendly discussion/debate and pair up every Stones album with its Beatles counterpart. For example, the Stones' first album England's Newest Hitmakers against the Beatles' first album, Please Please Me. Going to go all the way up to the Beatles last album and won't be including the album Yellow Submarine. Will post the next matchup every other da

Quotegeorgelicks It's more like A Sides and B Sides charting: #9 The Last Time / #96 Play With Fire #8 Mother's Little Helper / #24 Lady Jane #1 Ruby Tuesday / #55 Let's Spend The Night Together #14 Dandelion / #50 We Love You #1 Honky Tonk Women / #42 You Can't Always Get What You Want #10 Fool To Cry / #49 Hot Stuff Ok gotcha. Makes sense.

Quotetreaclefingers Yeah, that sounds right. The Last Time/Play With Fire maybe? Honky Tonk Women/YCAGWYW could easily have been. A lot of people think She Was Hot was a mistake as the A side when coupled with I Think I'm Going Mad. (I'm not in that camp). These were the B-Sides that ended up charting: What A Shame (#124) Play with Fire (#96) Lady Jane (#24) Dandelion

I only know of one Double A-Side single the Stones have released, Let's Spend the Night Together w/ Ruby Tuesday. According to Billboard, they had 6 Double A-Side singles to chart in the US Hot 100. What were the others?

QuoteNeddieFlanders Quoteexhpart Vagina? Is it a singalong song? Original working title of Slave (which was not Black And Blue Jam as they try to make us believe in the Tattoo You deluxe booklet). N I thought the same thing when I saw the notes for Slave. The working title was even mentioned (as well as Melody) in a 1975 RollingStone article written during the '75 American Tour:

QuoteTaylor1 I find it hard to believe that Taylor is not playing on WOAF in some capacity. Bass? There is no song from the Goats Head Soup sessions he is not playing on Interestingly on outtakes of WOAF, I can hear an acoustic guitar being played in the background but can not hear it on the official release unless it is buried in the mix. Perhaps that was Taylor?

QuoteGazza Quotecrholmstrom I think there was plenty of good reason that the outtakes weren't released on the record. They were never even worked on or considered for Tattoo You to begin with. I took a picture at Exhibitionism of a log book from October 1980 of songs compiled to be further worked on. It included as listed: Mobile Master Reel #1 Biscuit Blues Black Limousine #1 E

Giving this 40th Anniversary release a 10/10. The bonus material is all wonderfully balanced, just like the original Tattoo You. I wasn't crazy about the re-working of the reggae version of Start Me Up, but it has quite grown on me. Mick has written and recorded great new lyrics/vocals for these old tracks. Still need to listen to the Wembley concert too but the new remaster of Tattoo You so
