At first I was disappointed in Keith's outright dismissal of the unstoppable development of popular music. There was a time when Keith himslef was at the forefront and fought against close mindedness. "Your petty morals don't apply to us". But then I saw that he is speaking from a position of at least some knowledge. He just does not dig this particular breed of violent overt

Yes, I always noticed that. Lou Reed IMO was aware of that and did it tongue in cheek. Kind of as a nod to an inspiration. Lou reed is a connoisseur of oldtime R&B, soul, doo wop.

Fleetwood might have gotten the MOR connotation from the mega sales of "Rumors" and maybe the ladies don't fit someone's hard rocking rock image. But Lindsey Buckingham is way up there. I have all four of his solo albums, and his stuff with Mac is brilliant.

In some rare cases a very good Boxed Set can supersede an artist's regular output. The Faces with "Five guys walk into a Bar" and James Brown with "Star Time" come pretty close IMO. Mac put the Faces set together and included great outtakes. James Brown has released so much subpar crap in between the brilliance. I got the Apollo and Paris Live albums, plus "Black Cae

We got most of the big names out of the way. Maybe still Springsteen or Bowie. Ziggy Stardust - Al;ladin Sane Transformer - Berlin Electric Warrior - The Slider After The Goldrush - Harvest 1999 - Purple Rain Every Picture Tells.. - Never a Dull Moment Carwheels on a Gravel - Essence The Stones certainly have had their Golden Era but I don't think they own it. That's sort of

Thanks Ssoulie, you are right of course. Skulls not yet in 73. I wish Mathijs was around. Mr D is not a song we mention often; and I really wonder what he played on it. What about "Angie"? (Your favorite Ssoulie)

I was thinking about this. There are so many times when a band or singer/writer has put out two sh*t-hot albums back to back. Like Sticky Fingers - Exile on Mainstreet Highway 61 Revisited - Blonde On Blonde Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure

I would call the opening to CYHMK most definetly a riff. Maybe even one of the archetype of a "riff" LOL. A 'hook' can be literally anything. It is just that: it hooks the listener in. It hooks itself into the memory. So it could be a musical phrase, very often a vocal phrase - maybe the title or the chorus - is often repeated. But it could even be a weird sound that sticks o

What guitar do you think Keith used for "Dancing with Mr D" in the 73 Euro shows? The reason I ask is because this is actually a very unique style for Keith to play live. On an uptempo number. It is not his 2-string riffing, it is not the Berry stuff, and it's not staright chords or freestyle lines. It's a totally fixed riff he is doing on the low strings; basically doing a

The meaning of riff has changed. Because jazzmusicians used ti use this word a lot in the past. It can mean many things; has to do with the context. A hornplayer could have come up with a wonderful riff. Which would maybe be a musical phrase. A phrase that will be the center of the 'head', the melody. Or the hornplayer was 'riffing' over the chnages. He was soloing in a cool,

What about Brian on LIVE Ruby Tuesday? I assumed he played recorder. But right now there is a photo of Brian playing piano from the 67 tour. Only songs it could be is LSTNT or RT. Anyone know which one it is?

The studio itself is allright. IMO some of the tunes just have an unfinished feel to them. Side 1 and Fingerprint File are up there, but those others could have made the difference between a great album and a time-keeping album. I lso LOVE the outro of IORR song. Keith traCKED two eletric guitars that play practically the same thing. But they are ever so slightly on a different timing pattern.

I can't stand it!! They were so tight!! So incredible loose and tight. I am sitting here, typing and got headphones on; the music is shuffling a bunch of stuff. "Sympathy" from 69 Altamont comes on. This is a live boot, with the Hell's Angels on stage, supposedly the worst conditions ever, the band is totally "a bag of nerves on first night!". If they ever should hav

What else to call'em? I'm trying to think of these guys that have been part of a big band, and never really did a damn thing. Except dance, look good, bop the lead singer. I came up with Bez with Happy Mondays (I read about this guy's car that he bought from doing a TV show. With 8 TVs and 20 speakers etc LOL) Andrew Ridgeley with Wham! Biggest waste of space ever to grace a stag

I considered that too Tumblin; and that makes me wonder about him saying that he joined in on the last 8 dtaes on trumpet. That is a lot to play with the Stones!?! Somewhere else I read that it was not trumpet but tambourine that he played. This I find easier to see.

Recent threads touch on this album. So I played it. The sound is so compressed. I noticed that in photos from the Munich sessions they are alwasy dressed for cold weather. I imagine that rainy Munich weather is not the setting where you write songs like "Sweet Virginia", "Loving Cup". "Till the next goodbye" really fits those settings. They must have used a lot of c

The Stones have several habits or quirks when sequencing an album. There are "Short and Curlies", "All the way Down", "Baby break it down", "Too Tight", "She;s so Cold", "No Use in Crying", "Break the Spell, "Miss Amanda Jones","Had It With You", "Factory Girl". These kind of short little numbers, that

Felix is a monster! Does anyone else have his last one? The one on disc? It is so intricate that I get lost. Gazza, so is Karnbach the source for "One more Try" and "Under Asst"? It's weird because I consider RO more reliable than Karnbach.
