QuoteTaylor1 Taylor’ssolo music is niche music It was never going to bring big album sales. If he wanted that,he should have stayed with the Stones. He easily could have done his solo stuff on the side and remained in the band .Why he left was perhaps the biggest career move mistake in rock history next to Pete Best pissing off John Lennon. I have said it before and I'll say it again if he i

QuoteTravelinMan Quoteretired_dog Then again, much of what I said above about Gallagher could also be said about Mick Taylor when he was on his own. So I would not totally rule out that it could have worked with the Stones around. BS. Comparing Mick Taylor’s albums to his? Not even close. Taylor touches on way more styles and his first album is one of the best Stones solo efforts there is.

QuoteGazza Oh I've no doubt that he auditioned (or at least played with them in Rotterdam). I've just never read from any credible source that he was on the shortlist which seems to have been early on limited to three people - Wood, Perkins and Mandel. I don't think its a coincidence that when they reconvened in Munich five weeks later to continue working on 'Black and Blue

QuoteGazza Quoteslane82 Mike Douglas asked Jimi Hendrix, "What's it like to be the best rock guitarist in the world?" and Jimi responded, "I don't know, you'll have to ask Rory Gallagher". Did he actually say this or is it (as I suspect) an urban legend? Considering that by the time Hendrix died, Rory was 22 and had a discography amounting to two studio al

QuoteMathijs I always found Rory Gallagher the least interesting of all players they auditioned. And I can't imagine they really considered him, being so far removed from Stones idiom. Just like Jeff Beck and Steve Marriott, I don't believe for a second they were ever considered. Mathijs Beck actually rehearsed with them. However, he was more interested in his instrumental jazz f

Quoteroryfaninva And two months after - something like that - I got a phone call. And I didn't actually have a phone, I had to go down to my landlady and, 'Michael, would you like to come to an audition for The Rolling Stones?' "I said, 'What?! The Rolling Stones?! Let me... I'll call you back.' I called my brother Rudolf and I said, 'Can you believe tha

QuoteTravelinMan In the liner notes for Second Chapter or Ram Jam City, there is a story the Stones office called Danny Kirwan and left a message for him. So many stories, who knows? I do believe the bit about Gallagher’s people floating stuff out there for the press. Just like the supposed Hendrix quote about him with no source. The Hendrix story is an old one and with different variati

QuoteSighunt This was a long time ago from what I remember, but just going from memory, these are the folks who I read auditioned for the Stones guitarist job: Jeff Beck Rory Gallagher Harvey Mandel Wayne Perkins Peter Frampton Steve Marriott Nils Lofgren Roy Buchanan Mick Ronson (?) QuotePalace Revolution 2000 QuoteTravelinMan I’m in the minority here, but I couldn’t see the album with a different opener. I love the song; it’s voodoo, grimy blues, rock, and Jamaican. very good point. This is true: there really isn't another cut from the GHS sessions that would work as opener. The thing about "Dancing w/ Mr D" is that it is one of those songs that is always

QuoteTravelinMan Including Through the Lonely Nights probably depends on if they will reissue a bonus cuts It’s Only Rock n Roll. I don't think they will include it. They didn't include Everything's Turning To Gold on the Some Girls Deluxe Edition.

It was released on vinyl and cd in the deluxe box set before the Ward-release. But the deluxe was so expensive and rare that it was not released to the regular fans that can barely afford tickets and travel to see t

If this is credible, there are either more outtakes or some alternate versions because there will be at least ten tracks on the Rarities disc. I would imagine THE BRUSSELS AFFAIR with its o

QuoteRocky Dijon QuoteLiveAtHidepark But Scarlet wasn't a "Goats Head Soup" outtake. Right. Have a look at the Deluxe Editions of EXILE and SOME GIRLS to see how they handle that issue. There was an unconfirmed rumor (which could just be speculation) that "Scarlet" evolved into "Following the River." If that's the case, they certainly didn't use

Flowers would have been more useful to U.S. fans if they deleted the repeated tracks from the U.S. versions of Aftermath and Between The Buttons Ruby Tuesday, Let's Spend The Night Together and Lady Jane and included the missing b-sides and U.K. only tracks Sad Day, Long, Long While, Who's Driving Your Plane and What To Do. I actually prefer Mike Zito's Chuck Berry tribute Rock 'N' Roll A Tribute To Chuck Berry which was released as almost the same time as Ronnie's. The individual tracks have special guest appearances on them and it is more energetic in my opinion. 1. St. Louis Blues - Charlie Berry III 2. Rock N Roll Music - Joanna Connor 3. Johnny B - Goode - Walter Trout 4. We

QuoteSomeGuy No Security is a rather good, but misunderstood live document. The album is about rare songs that were played on the BtoB tour, but it got the usual fan flak like: why don't we get a full show again?!? and that kind of drivel. I wish they would do this type of thing with the more recent tours, just release a cd of the song vote winners or rarely played songs from the tours.
