Quotewelshphil Quotehockenheim95 Quotewelshphil QuoteDeanGoodman QuoteStones726 Why 2 shows in Vienna- small market, no? It's more or less the center of Europe - an easy drive from places like Budapest, Brno, Zagreb, Salzburg, Prague, Bratislava, etc. Good airport connections. Relatively civilized. Good Ultravox song. The 2022 Vienna show was sold out.The whole pitch was full of fans ...

Back in the good old days the ideal age for a rock star was younger that your parents but older than your elder brother (or also sister, maybe). Considering the Stones' present age this would result in the better part of the audience being in their 60s or early 70s. Judging from the more recent shows that I saw, this might be quite accurate.

Would also make more sense this time if Munich is indeed on July 13.

Apart from whatever else there may have been, as far as I know also Phil's health issues kept him from large-scale touring, at least in his latter years.

QuoteSomeGuyI believe it was a German release only. Also, some other LPs had lyric sheets that American releases didn't have, either (Some Girls, Tattoo You, Undercover and Black And Blue). Don't know for Germany but when ER came out in Austria it first didn't have a lyric sheet either. However, the pressings available in the mid-1980s in Austria had it (lyrics printed on the inn

Sad news. Phil has not been well for a long time, so not totally surprising news, and 84 is a respectable age. As a bass player, he had a rather exceptional approach, playing another lead in the low register, counterpointing what went on in the higher registers. There's also some Stones connection. The Dead played a number of covers that also the Stones did, and they did some great version

QuoteDandelionPowderman If memory serves, they just recorded it off the bat as a jam. Then they did one more take (would have loved to hear both). IMO, it only adds to its brilliance. The harp and the guitars are phenomenal. The vocals as well - great track! Thanks for the info! Being able to listn to both versions side by side would be cool!.

QuoteGreenblues QuoteSilver Dagger Probably my favourite track on Emotional Rescue. The song has a real menacing air to it - was it possibly inspired by Apocalypse Now or Vietnam in general....those lyrics about bumming for cigarettes in the American zone always make me think of that film. I guess the song is much more connected to "The Third Man" and "A Foreign Affair" (or

Down In The Hole might work live if the Stones ever did a laid-back jamband show (as might a few other songs). But chances are slim they would ever do a laid-back jamband show.

Sounds nothing like Ghost Town to me. I guess they would have lost the law suit even if it had been admissible. Rather sounds like a band who are trying to sound Stones-style (which is not in itself bad).

QuoteRollingFreak I've been meaning to watch The Holy Mountain too. It's amazing that he's still alive too. You should! Holy Mountain was my first Jodorowsky movie, back in the late 70s, when still at school. No matter what one thinks of it, to me it's one of the movies one should have seen. In the Dune documentary, Jodorowsky suggests to use his story board (which he pre

There is a great documentary, "Jodorowsky's Dune", that gives you a good idea of what he had intended to do. On the one hand it's a pity the movie never got made, on the other hand, considering what was technically possible back then, the movie would perhaps seem outdated and unintentionally hilarious today. Also, it may well have ended as the most famous movie that never g

If the music by groups currently not, or no longer touring should be kept alive, cover bands or tribute bands are a logical conclusion. Think of all the Mozart or Beethoven tribute bands all over the world ... Or you do it ABBA-style, producing your own digitized tribute show. I see the role of musicians in a - say - Pink Floyd tribute band who play the songs in a note-perfect way not much di

No idea whether some expanded edition/s is/are in the pipeline, but when HD was released, Mick famously said they are already about two thirds done with the next album (I understood this like two thirds of the songs are in the can and ready to go, but who knows if this interpretation is correct). That is, in principle there would be ample time to finish the album in time for a subsequent Summer t
