Examples of Mick Taylor playing a Strat? I am interested to know of any examples of Taylor using a Fender Stratocaster in any recording sessions? I read somewhere that he used a Strat for the Brown Sugar sessions at Muscle Shoals and he adds some twangs that sound like a Strat tremolo bar on If You Can't Rock Me. Any others? Any pics? Thanks!

The reason I still listen to the Stones is the weird album tracks scattered through their discography. Stuff like Casino Boogie, Sway, Citadel, Stop Breaking Down. You can go on about "great songs" and "big hits" but I woudl rather listen to Sweet Black Angel than Angie any day. Sometimes a performance or a groove or a solo make a song. Not all songs can be judged on whethe

Quotewith sssoul That's one of the 5-string custom jobs Ted Newman-Jones (love & light to him) made for Keith. He used them pretty frequently in 1973. If you search "Ratbag Boogie" on this site, you'll find an index to the threads about guitars. The ones made by Ted Newman-Jones are in one called "customs and oddballs" or something like that. Have fun!

So Taylor plays the swarm of guitars that come in before the chorus?, I always liked these, listening to an alternate take without them I always think "hang on somethign is missing"! It is interesting that he says the song was pretty much down but also pretty rough at the same time. I think that sums up the Stones!

Quotewith sssoul QuoteFP How was Bill normally treated in the Stones? I read somewhere that Ron Wood said Bill never got to contribute any tunes (at least in the 70's) because "they were useless", which seems quite harsh. Was he bitter about this? I don't know where you found that quote, but it's rubbish. Ronnie was co-writing even before he joined the band, and Bi

QuoteTravelinMan I imagine the basic tracks for Tumbling Dice had Jagger and Richards on rhythm guitars and Taylor on bass, then Richards went crazy with overdubs. He tended to do that on songs he was particularly fond of. I think the reason there are so many people listed on the Exile credits is due to the fact there were many takes of songs, so at some point, for instance, Taylor recorded a

I was watching this very interesting documentary about the Stones 1976 tour and at about 10.31 during a performance Jagger walks over to Bill's side of the stage and gives him a hard push! It isn't a friendly gesture, but rather a hard "get out of my way" shove. Bill mildly attempts a kick back and then Jagger tries kick Bill. Does anyone know what this may have been about,

Keith's lead playing must have suffered because of his drug problem in the 70's? I always think it is strange that people say Taylor can't play rhythm and Richards can't play lead. There are plenty of examples of Taylor playing sympathetically on rhythm (You Got The Blues, Hip Shake) and Keith playing great leads (Sympathy, Gimme Shelter). They both seem to play stuff that

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 Yes there are books; but you could go to Ian's site 'Time Is On Our Side' e.g.. All Stones cuts w/ individual credits are listed there. What is good about a site like this, is that many corrections have been made, and keep this very factual. Many of these credits have been discussed and argued over on these very pages. Usually once a site like Ian'

I just casually read the credits for my copy of Exile while listening to it today and read M Jagger Guitar on Tumbling Dice! I have never noticed before or thought about it. Really???? I know he plays guitar on a few tunes but which part does he play, it all sounds like Keith to me.Is this part of Exile's famously confusing credits? Did Jagger write the music, I always thought it was a Keith

I have read lots of conflicting stories about the development of this song. Some stories suggest it was developed with Ry Cooder and evolved from a country song, some suggest Mick Taylor had a big influence in brining the rock element while others that it was pretty much finished as a rock song by the time Taylor joined. Does anyone know the time line of the songs development (and the forms i

I did a search but didn't come up with anything so I thought I would ask if anyone knows if there was any influence from the VU to the Stones, were Jagger and Richards aware of them?if so which period and which songs have the influence of Lou Reed's style? Was there ever talk of collaboration between Jagger and Reed due to Bowies influence?

I was interested to know if there are examples of Mick Taylor using modes in his solos or more exotic scales such as Harmonic and Melodic Minor? From the studio recordings he seems to stick to blues scales and natural minor but I wondered if there are any live shows that feature the more uncommon scales/modes mentioned above?

I don't know how this album passed me by, maybe because it has always had mixed reviews, but it is brilliant. Having seen Dylan live and not recognised any of the songs while he was dressed as a matador and singing like a 1000 year old man this album is a refreshing reminder of a time when Dylan sang with passion, reinvented songs in meaningful ways and actually seemed committed to rock a

I have recently been listening to a lot of demos, rehearsals and alternate takes for EOMS, GHS and IORR and started to wonder if these albums reached their true potential or if the released tunes suffered from being overdone in search of perfection? I have read about Keith making the band play take after take until he reached what he was looking for. I wondered whether as drugs took over the s
