QuoteTravelinMan Taylor’s parts can be heard on Rocks Off, but I think his boogie pattern on Rip This Joint is pretty low in the mix. The slide on the bootleg is different from anything I’ve heard him do before so I’m not sure about that. It’s 100% Taylor on Shake Your Hips: Yes that's what I'm saying, there is no evidence of a Taylor rhythm guitar on Rock's Off. Mathijs w

QuoteTheflyingDutchman I only get insecure about guitarist's skills when Jeff Beck tells me I'm wrong. No joking, always judge for yourself. Good point!

QuoteTaylor1 Mathijs is very knowledgeable about guitars and music, but it sounds like he tries to lessen Taylor’s contributions. There is no proof he doesn’t play on Brown Sugar or Rip this Joint. He was very capable of playing like Keith. But even if he Mathijs is right that Taylor doesnt play on Brown Sugar orRip this Joint, his comments that Taylor was terrible on the 50 and Counting Tour is ju

QuoteMathijs QuoteTravelinMan The replaced parts on Ya Ya’s were probably done because the tone didn’t have enough crunch. Taylor played fairly clean rhythm live. Taylor's parts were erased as they clashed with Keith's main rhythm guitar. It's the same for quite some Taylor parts on Exile, that were erased as it clashed with Richards' idea for parts. On tracks like Rocks

QuoteTravelinMan QuoteDandelionPowderman But did he play on the backing track session at all? He's not on the early Gimme Shelter-version. If he played, though, he would most likely have played in standard tuning. Both of Keith's electric tracks are in open G. The engineer said he played a Strat. I think Jimmy Johnson confused a Strat with a Telecaster. Taylor said he used

QuoteTravelinMan QuoteFP I am pondering if Keith is actually playing all the guitars on Star Star? The left hand rhythm sounds like something Keith had been playing for years. Yeah after reading that old NME article I listened to the track a new way. The chunky rhythm made me think of Richards and the really clean Berry-fills made me think of Taylor on Bye Bye Johnny. Usually Richards uses a pr

QuoteTravelinMan QuoteDandelionPowderman There is no Mick Taylor-guitar on BS on Sticky Fingers. Has anyone categorized the versions out there in any particular order? A guy that owns the Muscle Shoals tapes said that version is the one from the Gimme Shelter movie. I don’t hear Taylor on that one, but he supposedly played on it. Yes I would like to hear all the working versions. I imagin

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteRobertJohnson QuoteDandelionPowderman There is no Mick Taylor-guitar on BS on Sticky Fingers. Both guitars played by Keith? All three guitars were played by Keith. I always felt there were more guitars layered on BS for that fat sound. I also felt Taylor plays the chords on the intro (after the riff) and then on the bridge after the chorus. There is a standa

I never really liked Star Star but after reading this thread I relistened and enjoyed it's sleazy charms. I always felt the words were a prototype of the style of lyrics Jagger wrote on Some Girls. Th guitars sound great and while Keith can play those lead licks in his sleep they have rarely sounded so nasty! Also demonstrates MT and KR could weave when they felt like it.

QuoteTheflyingDutchman QuoteFP For example Travelin Man mentioned to me he emailed Mick Taylor about Brown Sugar and the reply confirmed he did play on it. Of Course MT played on the live versions. That's what's Taylor's representative likely meant. I think TM asked specifically about the studio version but he will have to confirm

Amusing to hear Ron Wood totally butcher Taylor's classic solo on Can't You Hear Me Knocking at London Hyde Park show. Plays about three notes and hits a massive clam! I love Ron but think he should stay away from this tune...Good show otherwise...

Quotewillnash QuotePalace Revolution 2000 I too had thought that some tracks had been done entirely in LA. And now I also don't think so anymore. I base that on the remarks by people who were there; the same ones that have already been quoted. Also on the genesis of certain songs. E.g. we know that "Lovin Cup", and ADTL had been kicking around. "Virginia" had also been ar

Just wanted to give a shout out to Taylor as rhythm player, something that gets overlooked due to his awesome solo skills. Live With Me, B*tch, Shake Your Hips, Star Star & Heartbreaker show he could really drive a song and his pretty chordal fills on I Got The Blues show he could be a sensitive accompanist as well.

QuoteMathijs QuoteFP I am intrigued by this info to find out when Loving Cup was recorded then? I thought it was one of the Exile tracks completely recorded in LA rather than started in Nellcôte and finished at Sunset Sound (despite earlier alternate versions floating about). I was in L.A. trying to finish the record, up against a deadline. It was a joke. -Mick Jagger, 2003 Listen, if you believe Mick, you'll believe anything. QuoteMathijs QuoteRobberBride Quote24FPS So...Mick and Keith were the only Stones for the overdubs? All five members were there, MJ and KR the most, with MT present at "most sessions", according to the woman organizing and booking for the band. BW and CW came "once, maybe twice" during the winter 71-72, staying "for a few weeks". (This matches what Wyman has told.

Quote24FPS Nice article. So...Mick and Keith were the only Stones for the overdubs? I really miss the L.A. Weekly. It used to be thick, and would show up, for free, on Thursday afternoons. It carried great restaurant reviews and let you know what groups were appearing where, and other cultural goings on like film revivals. Now it's a sad, thin little throw away of ten pages or so.
